I was working for the last two years and lost my job because the company was cutting costs.I finished my job in sept just before i was starting college so I was never claiming any benefits prior to starting college.Does this rule me out of claiming BTEA?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

On the surface of it, yes I'm afraid it does rule it out. You have to be in receipt of a social welfare payment for 12 months in some cases, 9 months in others.

However, go and talk to them, the way things are now there may be something they can do.

No harm to contact citizen's advice and your local TD to see if they can do anything.

    Good Luck!

    Hi there!

Ive applied as a mature student for this September. Ive been living in Dublin for the last 3 years and ive been in receipt of job seekers allowance since August last year. From what I gather if im not successful in getting a job between now and September i'm entitled to receive the Back to Education Allowance?

The thing is i'm from Carlow and the course I have applied for is in Carlow IT so if i'm living at home will I still be entitled to it? I should really ring Citizens Information tomorrow shouldnt I :)

    Thanks in advance!
    Suz
