    Hi! Im a 17 year old leaving cert student who wants to dabble in home recording, just so i can say i know a small bit. Anywho, i have 4-channel powermixer, my own instruments, and the use of a family pc. Is there anything else that is absolutely necessary? And does anyone know where i could download free audio editing and mixing software? Thanks. :)

    Have a look in the Dance music section of the music production forum.

    The second sticky, labelled "Resources", has links to lots of free stuff. You should find what you need in there.

    Good luck.

    I think x music had free demo versions of ableton live a few weeks ago.. I think that might be a good place to start... That with a few youtube tutorials might get you started.. Good luck:)

    Here's a free editor;

    http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

    People rave about this also;

    http://www.reaper.fm/download.php

    Both have mac and pc options.

    You're going to need a soundcard or audio interface to be able to get audio and midi in and out of the computer.

    Reaper is'nt free, but I think you can use it for three months free of charge and if you like it, you can buy for $60 (bout E44). Haven't used it but i've heard good things.
