    Hi Folks

Just wanted to ask a question. I have a sky box on free to air mode. I wondered is it possible to buy a card that lets me look at uktv gold etc in otherwords all the channels except sky movies sports etc

Or can i buy any sort of card in general. Just out of curiosity.

    Thanks

Yes, you can. Ask for a "second hand subscription"

www.skyireland.ie should have details on packages without sport or movies.

I am guessing that you are telling me that I still must subscribe to sky. I dont understand why you can just say that outright at 14000 Post I thought we would be past the childish stage, I imagined that but as I have learned lately there is a lot about sat I dont know. I also know that if i get a larger dish and motorise it I can pick up more channels.

I read a lot of articles about receive 180 channels free on free to air, Even if I combine all the channels mentioned on the turning list I dont think this comes near so what I am asking is how do I receive more without subscription.

If it cannot be done fine if it can I would appreciate knowing.

Not as far as I know

Sky control the encryption system so they get to decide what bundles of channels you can subscribe too

If you dont want sky the only satellite options (not including foreign language packages) are Free to air or possibly Free to view

Not childish in the slightest. I read your post to mean if you could get a Sky subscription with existing hardware that you already have.

There was a "Freesat From Sky" card available to UK viewers, which opened up Fiver, Five USA and Sky3. NOt sure if it's still available. You'd need access to a UK address to get one.

Sadly, there's no free/pay-once card that opens GOLD.

you can still get a ftv card from sky.
    There's a thread about it.
It'll open up all the '5' channels, sky3 and channel4HD

They are officially available to those in the United Kingdom only. Such cards are not available in Ireland.
