    Hi,
    Just looking for help.
We are doing a battle of the band comp in Cavan and there it is to be decided by voting.
    We are worried because
1 we are scheduled to play at 6 which means in voting terms there will be nobody there bar us.
2 you have to buy votes at 4 Euro-each and you have to buy as many as possible to win the heat!!!
some bands are going to spend hundreds as the prize is to get a slot in a major festival in england.

any tips on how to progress bar going on at 10 and bringing wads of cash???

    Thanks

well if you're ever in Dublin and looking for a gig, I can tell you some places that you can get one pretty easily. I know it sucks struggling to find gigs!

    Scam.

    Paying for votes?

And who exactly is going to pay for your accommodation, travel costs etc etc when you eventually "win" this competition after spending hundreds and go to this festival?

Nobody will be there at 6 for a gig, your what time are you supposed to soundcheck?!

    What competition is this exactly?!

firstly, this is an obvious scam in this whole buying votes bull**** but I presume you are clever enough to see this.

second, what major festival in the UK is the prize?

Really sounds like a scam, I can't imagine that whoever wins it will have any sense of achievement. Last time I entered a battle of the bands it only boiled down to whoever brought along the most people.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 93 ✭✭Shoota

BTW, if "judges decisions are final" why are you paying for votes?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 948 ✭✭✭MrTrebus

    deffo a scam.....

why would you have to pay for votes ?
how is that a "band" competition ???

If i were you I'd email the crowd in glastonbury and report that this was being asked of the entrants !
see what they have to say about that

Is there a fee for the bands to enter? if there isnt no harm in playing as you wont be out of pocket. But I defo wouldnt "pay to play" this gig. Load of siht

Good idea! I'd definitely email Glastonbury but in the meantime, I'd pull the gig. No WAY I'd play under those terms. Also, I would clarify now which stage/area you will be playing if you were to win - we've already had a few things in the pipeline for playing in coffee tents etc. just from keeping our ears open. It's not the mainstage but it'd get us there and it would be a bit of skit :P. Those type of slots are easier to get and I'm sorry but anyone who expects you to pay for votes and pay to play, if it was for a slot like that, is grifting.

I'd get out of it now. There are so many venues and gigs that you can get around the country, even if you're just starting out. It can be hard if you're not on the go for long but no one should have to pay to play. It's a swizz.

Unless the organizers of this battle of the bands want to explain exactly how this works, I can't see what a battle of the bands in Cavan has to do with the legitimate competition. Here is some links to read -

    http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/performing/2010-emerging-talent-competition

    http://www.qthemusic.com/glastonburynewtalent/

It clearly says to upload your tracks to a website to enter. It costs £11.95, THAT IS ALL. At no point on either of those 2 links does it say that you must enter locally organized Battle of the Bands competitions. It has no link to local, AFFILIATED (v imp) promoters.

One more minor point :) It also says that entry to the competition is now closed on the Q mag link. CON methinks.

Hamburger, I think you need to tell all the other bands before they hand over their hard earned money too.

just checked the myspace page. someone asked about the voting system and the guy replied by saying he's not the organiser but just running the myspace. yeah right. nice excuse

    these guys have some neck.

plus a 6 oclock start for a gig??!! joke.

I know we are on at 6 and like it will be a ghost town, if we were U2 and people came in at 8 or 9 they wont even see us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭balducci

    You're still doing it?????

All I'm gonna say guys is be wary of this. I've been in touch with my contacts in Glastonbury and they are not aware of this BOTB. Also, pointed out to me that all promoters have been provided with official Glasto postering for this comp.

Just got our posters today and the votes are 5 euro each.

    I thought 1-2 euro but 5

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 288 ✭✭yoursaviour1989

why the hell are you still considering doing this?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28 ldee

    5 euro a vote.
5 bands playing a night for 4/5 nights?
these guys are no doubt plssing their pants from all the laughing

I note on their promotion they say 'judges decision is final'. eh, if a band brings a few hundred quid to spend on votes i presume the judges decision doesn't matter a bit.

The user 'Whiplash', who posted the original link to that classy poster about this concompetition is probably the very same person who runs the myspace page.
The picture on the front page of myspace is hosted on a photobucket account of one 'Whiplash84'.
So OP, pm him and find out what the story is on this, or better still, encourage him to post here!;)
But more fool you if you decide to take part knowing its all about buying votes!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,514 ✭✭✭raindog.promo

Is "buying votes" in all other walks of life not illegal?

    This sounds incredibly dodgy.

    Fools and their money........

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,514 ✭✭✭raindog.promo

After thinking about this some more. Do you know who is running it? their name or address?
Have you signed a contract (although entering the competition may legally constitute a contract) where it is outlined that the winner of the BOTB will go to Glastonbury?

What's to stop these guys doing a runner with the cash and never being heard of again?

Concerning the money for buying votes. Why bother even playing?
It's not a battle of the Bands, it's an auction for a Glastonbury slot.
