Hen Party- Location Dilemma

    Hi There,

I am currently trying to plan my hen for July 17th. As times are tough and that is the peak of the summer I want to keep costs to a minimum. I organised my friends Hen in October and we got fab accommodation in an Apart hotel. This was Ideal as we had a few drinks in one of the apartments before we went out and it was only €30 per head! I just think its not fair to be expecting people to spend crazy money for 1 night out!

My problem is I am looking for something similar in a 2.5 hour radius of Galway, but all I can seem to find is Hotels, which would mean no drinking before we leave, Plus the prices seem to be fairly high too.

I am half thinking of booking Ennis, but I was looking for something different, e.g I had my heart set on Lahinch, but prices there are unreal. Another place I had in mind was Naas, but again v. expensive accom!

If anyone has any experience of good towns that wouldn't be so expensive, I would be so grateful,

    Thanks!!

Your problem with trying to do this in Galway that weekend is that it is the height of summer & midway through the Arts Festival.

Unfortunately, hotels in Galway will be expensive at that time.

Can't think of anything like what you're looking for - maybe try Corrib Village, the student accommodation, think they rent it out in the summer, get a full apartment & you're a short taxi ride to town.
You could also try the travelodge - again, a bit out of town, but may be cheaper than other hotels.

I'll be planning my stag for a smaller town I think, to avoid problems like that.

Hi there, thanks for your reply! I should have made myself a bit clearer, I'm from Galway so unfortunately thats not an option for the Hen! too many eyes if things get messy ;)

I know I am prob being too fussy! will prob just stick with a hotel if I can get one somewhere for under €40...

However if anyone knows of any alternatives, pls let me know!

My bad, i read it as within 2.5 miles of Galway, and replied without fully reading your post. :o

You could try somewhere in Westport - plenty of hotels, not sure what sort of deals are going.
If I find anywhere worth recommending in my hunt for a stag location, I'll let you know.

most of them seem to end up in kilkenny, theres even a thread about it on the kilkenny city forum in the region section . . .

I`d go with westport as well. I was at a wedding there in october and most of the guests stayed in apartments at the Harbour Mill.
We had a ball in the apartments for the 2 nights we stayed there...
It cost €300 for 2 nights for 1 apartment for 4 people sharing...... so would cost only €75 a person for accomodation for the weekend

Cheers for the advice, Unfortunately the Mill apartments are booked out that weekend, but I might be able to book apartments called "the Helm" in Westport. If it works out that they are free I will probably go with that!

Now I just have to see where are the good spots to eat and dance in Westport!! so again all suggestions welcome!

Thanks a mill for all the help! ;)

I suggest heading to Northern Ireland - and Enniskillen is great.

I had mine in belfast about 3 weeks ago and it was excellent - we stayed in a great hotel all sharing rooms (£27.50 each per person) 2 to a room.

we went out for drinks and dinner. in a bar in Northern Ireland drinks are all about £2.50 each so, much much cheaper than staying south of the border and all the same fun.

I'd suggest enniskillen as it is a lovely place in summer, has lots of bars and restuarants and is within 2.5 hours of galway(i think)

failing that, i'd seriously recommend belfast. we loved it.

One of the hotels in Sligo has apartments - could be a Raddisson? Know friends were at a hen there and said the accom was great ... not sure what Sligo would be like for a hen?!

Yes the Riverside suites, they are class, I organised a hen for my friend there last Oct, and it was great Craic, Sligo is brill! Can't do the same as her, so have narrowed it to Limerick, Ennis or Castlebar!
