Hi,I'm due an upgrade on o2 shortly so thinking of changing to an iPhone. I'm currently using an N95 8gb and am well inpressed with the navigation system that comes pre installed on the phone. So much so i actaully sold my Garmin ages ago!
What is the best navigation app for Ireland on the iPhone...prices....free...etc?

I've found Navigon is fantastic - uses navteq maps I believe, which are better than the teleatlas the competition use. Excellent easy to use user interface and it kept a solid lock for me at all times. I did notice the iPhone getting VERY hot using it though, but it was plugged in to a charger in the car so thay might be a factor.

The favourites seem to be Navigon and TomTom...they're pricey though. Navigon is 74.99 and Tom Tom is 79.99.
I'm using TomTom and I love it! I have absolutely no sense of direction and I haven't gotten lost once since getting it! It's really up to date and gives you loads of choices about which route to take eg: fastest, avoid motorways, toll bridges. If you plan a route it calculates everything for you, it even calculates traffic at whatever time you want to leave and gives you the option to avoid it!
I've heard great things about Navigon too. I think if you do get the iphone then browse the web..there's different sites that compare the sat navs and that'll help you decide which will work better for you:)

I'd give my vote to CoPilot, excellent nav app and pretty much half the price of the other 2 big names.

Any idea how much data the gps would use? I'm PAYG so if I got a sat nav app just wondering how much it'd cost to actually use the thing.

For copilot, navigon and tomtom, theres no data, or close to none used. The GPS in the iphone is aGPS, which uses your data connection to get a quicker lock.

On the other hand if you use google maps as your gps app, it downloads the maps on the fly, unless you cache them over wifi first, so theres data needed in that case.

I use Navigon on the iPhone 3G, and I find it mostly OK. It does seem very slow at startup and when using the built-in iPod control interface. I wish there was an option to ignore the dock connector and use the phone's speaker as I'd like to be able to listen to the radio while having Navigon on.

Yeah there's pretty much no data used..I'm on payg too. I have a 2g so I had to buy an external gps device and works great!
