Not sure where this should be posted for best result???

Can anyone suggest a good FREE download for dvd ripping & burning. I'm not doing anything illegal just looking to copy home dvds to pc & then burn as needed for family/friends.
I have a windows xp pc.
    Any help much appreciated.

Freeware is enough, you can get Free DVD Ripper at free-star.org.

Home made movies (usually) do not have copy protection, so you do not need a ripper. Just use cdburnerxp http://cdburnerxp.se/ to make an .iso from your dvd-s and later burn those .iso-s onto blank dvd-s. Btw, vlc will play .iso files.

In case they are taking too much space on the hard drive, you could use dvd decrypter http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/ and AutoGK or Handbrake to compress them. This however takes more time and will take even longer when reconstructing the compressed files in order to burn them onto dvd-s.

Tanx freestar, i downloaded the software, loaded my dvd, selected the output location, selected all the scenes, hit the "rip" button as instructed, waited a while before dvd ripped but when i checked the destination location, it wasn't there????
    What did i do wrong?
