New runners - legs sore

    Hi,

I bought a new pair of runners a few weeks ago with the intention of doing the marathon in May. It was a proper store where they put u on the treadmill, check your gait etc

My legs can get a bit sore when running....is this normal ?

I've run 3 x 5 miles each week the last 2 weeks and 2 x 5 so far this week. Is it just a case of getting used to the new runners, do they need to be broken in as such? or is it just me getting fit?

I ran similiar distances last year with a €20 pair of asics and never had any problems.

    Thanks.

What were you running in the weeks before you bought the runners?

Cut the length of your runs to 3 miles and slow down a bit and see how the legs feel then. You maybe just over doing it a bit.

I don't think it's anything to worry about, just your body getting used to running again. Possibly.

It might be useful to have more than one pair to alternate ......... especially for the marathon.

Having a different model/brand spreads the pain around !

Also pay attention to what socks you are using.

well they call it "breaking in" for a reason!
theres always a bit of difficulty when switching into new runners, takes a bit of time, if should eventually stop!
