    Hi,
I'm an existing sky+ customer and am interested in upgrading to the sky+hd box,not for the hd channels, but for more recording space really, and for the fact that my sky+ box has become very tempermental lately(switching itself off then not coming out of standby, failed recordings etc)

If I take up Sky's offer to swap out my current box for a new sky+hd box for €159 will I have to enter into a new 12 month contract with them?

I might be leaving the country in august/september and I dont fancy paying contract cancellation fees.

    Thanks in advance

Any upgrade with Sky means you are signing up for a new 12 month contract.

You'll have to pay €199 for the HD box as you've already recieved a discounted Sky+ box (I assume) and the installation charge is €60

Thanks for the replies, really dont fancy the 12 month contract tbh, does anybody know how much a new or good condition 2nd hand hd box would set me back?

And would it simply be a case of switching the 2 sat cable feeds from my existing sky+box into the hd one?

Sorry if these seem like stupid questions!

All you do is swap the digital cables at the back. Its simple really. Id say go on ebay or adverts. Ebay is swamped with second hand sky boxes

Would €130 be a decent price for a 2nd hand,1 year old, good condition HD box?

I looked into buying a brand new one from a few satelite supply shops and they all seem to be in the €250-300 range and one Irish based supplier has them at €349,so second hand seems to be my only option!

Yeah 130 seems good, Reason they are so cheap second hand is because when sky give them to customers theyre heavily subsidised,

You do know that you can now get a free sky HD box though, I know you dont want to be tied to a contract but 12 month contract would cost you about 170 (off the top og my head), And you get a free sky HD box, So basically for an extra 40 quid you get HD channels!!!

Actually getting sky HD would seem like a better deal to me,you would be getting a brand new box with a warranty
