    hi all, i am new to the music thread as i have made a decision and i need some help.

    i have been playing the guitar and singing for years. However i have never used a mic or plugged in my guitar. Its always on occasions and stuff like that when i am asked to bring my guitar with me for the 'sing-a-long'.

    I am at a stage now where i could comfortably go into a bar full of strangers and sing and play my heart out. i have a serious back catolag of guns and roses, ac\dc,u2, sawdoctors, green day,oasis, luke kelly, and everything in between.

    My question is what gear do i need to purchase and what would people reccommend? also an approx price of how much i would be paying for the stuff would be great.

    thank you for any info and help

    if you are at the stage you want to go gigging in pubs just vocals and acoustic guitar.
    i would get an electro accoustic so you can plug straight into pa system, i would also run the guitar through a chorus pedal to fill out the sound.
    next is the pa system itself.
    how big will the places be you are planning to play? you then need to find a system big enough to do the job but portable enough to be easy to carry and set up yourself.
    there is a good selection of second hand gear on adverts.ie all the time.

    You need a PA system and preferably an electro-acoustic guitar, as mentioned, so you can plug it in to the PA without needing another mike.

    What PA you get, how big etc., really depends on where you will be playing. If you're looking for something small and cheap, this kind of thing would get you started;

    although it is only 100w.
