Sound I've been dying for this game for a while, wouldn't mind getting stuck into the demo now tonight, although I hope I have enough space on the HDD =/

was really looking forward to this but after the playing the demo i'm not to sure. i liked the part in the apartment, thought the fight was great and the quick time event worked well but i found investigating the murder as the FBI agent a bit boring.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,229 ✭✭✭gloobag

Just played it. I thought it was very good. I actually thought the investigation part was cool.

The QTE's aren't as annoying as I thought they'd be. If you hit a wrong button, it just takes the event in a different direction rather than ending the whole thing.

The only criticism I'd have is that the voice acting for the FBI guy was rather stiff.

Just doing the 4 day challenge. o my god this is class! had to keep a girl on th phone on a series of youtube videos and now going through some Twitter page for a drunk witness statement. This is amazing.

    I LOVE IT !

    That is all...

this was great. particularly the brothel > the fight.. amazing lighting effects. see what can be accomplished when developers make a mature stab at a game whilst taking a novel approach? all too rare.. reminds me a bit of Blade Runner on the PC 13yr ago - this sort of game is right up my alley, can't wait

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,532 ✭✭✭WolfForager

    Brilliant stuff.

    No bewbs though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭NotorietyH

I loved it. The musiic is fantastic in it too, reminds me of the score to Seven or Zodiac. Love it. I'm viewing it as more like a point and click adventure more than anything else. Really love the tone and atmosphere of it.

Yeah I defiantly got a type of Matrix,Dark City,Film noir vibe from it. Would of been kinda fitting it it was set in Ireland......with the rain and all....

The sequel "Ah Jaysus, That's Terrible Weather" will be set in Cork city during the floods last year.

For anyone who can't get the code working, there are good videos up showing the demo walkthrough in 3 parts.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z91z9fGR-t0

you can change the display to 720p as well

I got it just there. It won't spoil the game too much, will it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,204 ✭✭✭moonboy52

    Cheers OP,

Downloading it now. Can't wait to play as i loved fahrenheit and the nomad soul. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,439 ✭✭✭Josey Wales

I just finished playing through the demo and I was very impressed. It wasn't really on my list of games to buy but it is now. The demo doesn't really give anything away but it gives you enough of the story to want to find out what happens next.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,204 ✭✭✭moonboy52

I was on the fence to be honest, but i will defo get this on pre-order

Got my code last night and still can't be arsed entering it in for some reason, and I'm dead excited about the game as well. A little backwards it seems :D

I have to say i really enjoyed the demo. Really nice change of pace for a game literally. I miss all the monkey island, sam and max, gabriel knight all those adventure games. Reminds me im getting old.
    Will be pre-ordering.

    But.... No bewbs! :*( :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭eddhorse

Loved this actually, its so different than anything else. Love the different buttons presses and use of the analogue sticks. ie using your inhaler.
The fight scene was good too, its a good turn of pace from the detective work,
had me up at the edge of my seat trying to get the correct button presses.
Dont get me wrong the detective work part was great as well.

All in all i will defo be purchasing it.
Its in at a tough time though between MAG, Battlefield BC 2 and one or two others. Its a big change of pace from them but might be just what you need after Modern Warefare.

reported instances around the web of adrenaline during the brothel scrap.. i did find myself laughing excitedly whilst following the onscreen prompts. was a little giddy all the while - can't say too many games have provoked that, lets be fair. some demand it just so you can compete.. but familiarity kicks in, boredom. however an instance of it, brought about by being drawn into a fight? seems about right. maybe Heavy Rain really will play with our emotions. in the right departments, in the correct doses.

Definitely an intriguing demo. As I said in another thread...

First sequence is fascinating. Things start off bad (do we honestly need a button prompt to open a door?) but it gets far more interesting. Worth playing through twice to see how the storyline can branch (I got an interrogation scene I didn't first time around when I decided to be more forceful, plus decided to lose the fight as well).

Second part, not so good as you say. It looks amazing, and the plot seems interesting, but going around pressing R1 until you find what you're looking for seems like lazy, pointless interactivity. I did like the hill climbing bit though - still a QTE, but the awkward button pressing works well in context.

Overall, it is a demo which has increased my curiosity somewhat - if the writing is up to scratch, it should be worth a playthrough.

I've said it many times before that Heavy Rain is a more ambitious, intriguing prospect than the multitude of FPS sequels coming up. The demo confirmed some concerns (limited interactivity) but also did a lot right (as many have said, the fight sequence is surprisingly visceral, and the general atmosphere / narrative seems very engaging).

I'll wait for reviews before buying (it really is the kind of game that could go either way) but the demo suggests that it will certainly be worth playing.

I have to say this is very true. I was so excited and almost bursting with giddiness when I was in the fight. Can't wait for the game to come out.

I also found the investigation rather interesting not in the same adrenaline pumping way but it was quite enjoyable finding a dead cat and slipping a couple of times. It was great fun. Basically I cannot wait until it arrives at my door step, hopefully on the 26th:)

Geldor, you found a dead cat???? I gotta play through the demo again.
I lost the fight because of the last button prompt. Was I spose to just move the whole joypad downwards?

I loved the trailer at the end "If you want to see your loved one again, chop off the top of your finger in front of the camera" Very Saw like. I LOVE IT!!!

Cool thanks, was going to order it online but I think I'll get it here on release day and trade in a game against it.

I would never buy an exclusive edition of a game but really tempted to get this. Gonna check with HMV for a price. Will mostly get it for the free DLC when it comes out.

I normally don't bother either, but it's the DLC and especially the soundtrack that attracts me to this one.

About 3 months ago, I couldn't give a f**k about this game. But the more I see and hear of it.... Man I want this game so much

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,084 ✭✭✭Grumpypants

This could go either way for me, i wasnt sure before the demo and while the demo quashed some of my doubts about the QTE it left me with a few new ones. The walking around is wierd having to hold R2 and the camera angle changing annoyed me at times. You would be walking one way the angle would change next thing your walking the wrong way. And at times even in this short demo i got failry bored.

It looks amazing graphics wise if the story is strong enough i could be glued to it but also at the same time i could be bored after 3 or 4 hours. Ill have to wait and see but i will be getting it either way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,509 ✭✭✭NotorietyH

You would be walking one way the angle would change next thing your walking the wrong way.

I think having the walk button just tied to R2 was to stop this problem. You look where you want to walk, then just hold R2 to walk without holding the direction. That way they can change camera angles with you changing direction because you're just holding the walk button rather than pointing it in the direction you want to go. It took me a bit of getting used to, but once you do it's great. Just have to click into the mindset that you just pick a direction and don't hold the L stick in that direction.

I only played the first part of the demo. I can see myself replaying it a few times however. I enjoyed it a lot.

I really liked Fahrenheit, and ever since the initial tech demo this has been something I've been looking forward to. Initially I was hoping it would come out on the 360, as Fahrenheit was multiplatform, but I got a PS3 at Christmas, and this was one of the deciding factors tbh.

The lighting and atmosphere are both exceptional, industry defining stuff right here. The voice work was more varied I found. Some excellent, some adequate... Not up to the uniformly high standard of something like Uncharted 2 or Mass Effect 2 for example. Really looking forward to it I must say.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭#Daniel

Thought the first part of the demo was excellent, really enjoyed the fight. The crime scene however was a lot less thrilling. Found it rather tedious climbing the hill.

Plus if you pre-order it in GameStop you get a free second-hand DVD. Not the best offer, but good if you find one you like

Yeah I pre-ordered it there earlier today. Bit strange giving a second hand dvd, chances of me finding one I like and don't already own is going to be very very slim. You'd think with PS3 they'd at least make it a blu-ray :P

    You were ripped off, lads.

They gave me a free demo disc, they peeled off the cover of a magazine and some monkey nuts.
