iPhone not free anymore on O2

Can anyone tell me when the iPhone will be free on O2 again please? Went into my local store earlier not realising that it was only a temporary offer they had that the iPhone was free on the €60 per month plan. I had been putting off making the change from Meteor to a bill from O2 and joining the masses with the iPhone and finally decided the other day that despite the overdraft i'd go for it and treat myself only to be told that it was €129 for that please sir!! I nearly choked, €129 for something that was free four days ago-apparently the offer ended on Sunday but they had never informed me that when i was enquiring on the Friday....can anyone please help? Had my heart set on the bloody thing by the time i got to the shop and now not a chance at €129. Higher bill options for a cheaper phone are not in my league. Would love to play with the phone for the weekend so if i can get it today free please let me know how to do it.
    Thanks.
Sorry for the rant.....i'm new here-thats my excuse and i'm sticking to it.

Offer is over that's pretty much it really, O2 site has been updated also no more free!

I find their use of the term free interesting. Maybe "you will pay us for it in the long run" would be more appropriate. I would not get too desperate though OP, they have probably just increased the price temporarily so they can have a new offer soon stating "save €129".

I'm kinda in the same boat. If Vodafone do eventually release in March, and if they continue their current pricing (thru that IOS crowd) then their phone will be free. I presume o2 will fall back in line then. If not then screw em!!

Well i'd be interested to see what O2s comments are on this. I did try and ring them this morning but got pushed from pre pay to post pay and back about three times before i finally gave up. Its simple-i want an iPhone, today, thats free on a bill of €60-i only want what was available last week. Its like when they got rid of concorde to go to sub sonic travel again.....silly!! Can some O2 guru please contact me about this, i have tried to contact one of you already to see if you could sort it for me but no response yet....

First of all, you wont get an answer about when it will be free again - other wise you wouldn't buy it now.

And secondly, the concorde was withdrawn from service because it wasnt economical or safe - hardly reasons that could be considered "silly".

It was a sale price, now the sale is over so the phone is back to the regular price. There is not much more too it than that.

Are you seriously comparing the end of a JANUARY sale to retirement of an aircraft due to a massive crash and falling demand??

    Seriously?

Understandable that promotional prices have to come to an end but sounds like another ill thought decision by senior O2 management.

COMING SOON: new iPhone and Vodafone competition so let's decrease any chance of selling these handsets by bumping up prices considerably.

the iphone was never free it was a hire purchase scheme, the free iphone was costing nearly a grand when bundled with the rip off price plans..

These rip-off price plans exist no matter what phone or network you use. Not much to be done about them

I got my 3GS on a 12 month contract at €45 a month (which I rarely exceed). That's a total of €540. Yes, for many, the tariffs don't suit but for others they work great.

How and when did ya manage to get it on that great 12 month tariff?

Actually my bad - I should have included the €199 I paid for the handset. :pac:

Some people got 12 month contracts - others 18 months. Probably luck of the draw if the O2 person doesn't update the standard contract term on the forms. I remember loads of people discovering they had shorter contracts after the 3G came out.

My reference to the concorde was not regarding its safety record or ecomonics or the concorde itself, it was to illustrate the return to a slower travel service or, going backwards in terms of developments of speedy air travel.

Regardless the iPhone was still being advertised as free in the window of my local O2 store today....its not and hence they wont be getting my business. Rang Vodafone earlier and IOS are out of handsets they tell me but will have them again shortly-i'm on the list or so i'm told-regardless its being officially launched within the next two weeks i was told so i'll go there then.

Totally agree with you, its not that the promotion is over, i get that, good god i'm not 3, its that its over and the price is back to €129, surely €50 would've been ok, still get us in whilst being lnot a million miles from Vodafones pricing (based on IOS released phones not confirmed Vodsfone pricing upon release)
Honestly, if it was €50 i would've bought it and said nothing but €129-cant imagine many are going for that now.....

Im with you linehanj i was looking to puchase the 32gb version on saturday for the price of €99. when i got there i was told that the promotion was over, and would now cost €229.

as you said, if they had left it at that price i would have signed up there and then... but at that price i left it with them,

unfortunatly i cancelled my 3 account and thats running out on the 19th of this month, so ive gone from definitely buying an i-phone, to the possibilty of not being connected... :) might be no harm....

as you said, if they had left it at that price i would have signed up there and then... ah well. :(

Buy it unlocked in Italy. Put the SIM of your choice in.

Buy it locked on PAYG in the UK. Unlock it officially for 15GBP. Put the SIM of your choice in.
