    Hey guys,
Basically have my mac 13 months and wrap that puppy in cotton wool.

Anyway I could'nt find my protective silicon case when was in a rush to mates house this evening put in a rucksack with no protective padding along with a charger.
I definitely did not drop the bag or do anything rough with it but when i opened the mac at my mates turned it on there is a dead part of the screen about 6 inches bottom to top and 2 inches width. I can still see the screen but its dead annoying. Devastated.

Anyway my question is should i go to an O2 store and explain my tale of woe or am i wasting my time? Is it out of Warranty?

Or am i clutching on straws please help as i am clueless :(

    Thanks

    Pat

*Just checked my serial number on the mac website and i am out of warranty - flip it anyway*

Ring Apple support and speak to Customer Services. Point out its only 13 months old, how much it cost, the premium you paid to have a Mac because of reliability, poor stoodent.........you get my drift. If not, read up on the Sale of Goods Act, and go back to o2 prepared with the important bits of the Act. Under this Act your contract of sale is with O2 and they are the ones who must repair, replace or refund. You do have statutory rights, but make sure you know them, you'll get wiped out if you go at it half-cocked.

Isn't there an EU ruling that you're actually entitled to 24 months warranty from point of purchase & not the 12 month's manufacturer's warranty (so 12 from the manufacturer & a further 12 from the seller)?

    So.... whats the question?

If you did this on the way home from the shop the day you bought it, it wouldn't be covered by warranty.

Check your home insurance, it might be covered on that policy under 'accidental damage'.

Yeah but when they were adapting that ruling to Irish law they left the 2 year bit out. Technically, existing Irish legislation already offers similar if not better protection. But it doesn't put a date on it. It's up to the small-claims court to decide what is considered reasonable.
