    Hi all,

A colleague of mine is a qualified accountant, she's self employed & does the accounts for a number of companies rather than working for a place only.

She was charging €20 per hour but recently upped her rate to €25 - is this reasonable? My boss seems to think not, but then again he is a tight aul f*cker so I'm not sure. I plan to do some independent research but just wondered if there were any other accountants here who could shed some light....

    Many thanks!
    P

If she's not a paye worker €20 an hour isn't exactly a lot! She has to pay her expenses, tax and pension contributions and she doesn't have the comfort of a stable job (holiday pay, redundancy, sick pay).

She might come in for 4 hours, two mornings a week and get all the work done - whereas someone else might milk 3 days out of the same job.

It really depends on how much work shes doing and whether it's high skilled work. A tax consultant could charge €100 an hour but could save the company thousands.
