Cant give a comparison as I havnt played Roganstown but im a fan of Corrstown (especially the Orchard 9 holes) and provided you get half decent weather im sure you wont be dissapointed if you play there. Must give Roganstown a try myself too.

    Roganstown - much better

I played both these courses a good few years ago, and while I recall that Roganstown was wide open off the tee but needed an accurate approach shot to well designed greens. But as for Corrstown, I can't recall a single thing about the place except the last hole, which had an island green.

    Pretty accurate statement there.

Not played Corrstown just been around the grounds. That island green looks real nice and the clubhouse I think has been recently done up and looks top notch.

To add a little heat to the fire, how would people rate St.Margarets in with Roganstown & Corrstown?? There’s a bit of a triangle going on with those three clubs, all very close to each other.

Heard a few poor reports about St.Margarets last year but had a mate down there recently and apparently its in good nick. They can cut you a deal of membership of €1,300… cheapest of the three.

I've played Corrstown and St. Margrets a number of times. Never played Roganstown.

Anyway, always thought there was a fair bit of difference between SM and CT. Always liked CT but SM was a really good set-up in it's day. If that's changed, fairplay to Corrstown - looking forward to getting out there again.

I haven't got a chance to play Roganstown so I can't comment on that but I'm a member in Corrstown and have played in St. Margarets many times. At the moment I would say Corrstown would be better than St. Margarets. SM is in big trouble financially with a lot of their members dropping out and nobody taking their places. There have been massive cuts in regards to greenkeepers and the course is in terrible condition at the moment (grass growing in the bunkers, bumpy greens) a long way off the standard it had a few years ago.

As you said jimjo these three clubs are unofficially connected. Corrstown and SM share the same machinery etc. and use them in rotation with the other club.

Corrstown all the way for me but I would say that since I am a member since the course opened. Back in the day St Margarets for me was the best parkland course in Dublin, it had fantastic greens and lush fairways so it was a bit of a shock when I went back after a few years and saw how the course had gone so downhill. I have yet to play Roganstown but have heard only good things so far.

I had the opporunity to play all 3 course, roganstown,st.mags and corrstown.

Roganstown - Played it twice and enjoyed it very much, greens were superb ! Love the fairways even though its wide from the tee box.

Corrstown - 27 holes, the Orchard 9 is a disappointing, very plain and its suitable for the high handicappers. Meadow 9 is good 9 holes, some poor holes and some solid holes. River 9 holes is probably the best, long off the tee. Nothing special about the island green, its big enough as it is!!!

St.Mags - Played it twice before xmas and i enjoyed, good facilities, nice clubhouse! All though its a generous course where u could get away with a bad drive, the greens were tricky enough as it is!! Love the par 5 on the 8th, par 4 on the 6th and par 3 on the 5th. Fanastic finishing hole.Tough course.Suitable for mid to low handicappers. My type of course!!

roganstown a fair bit nicer of a course than corrstown in my opinion, St mags is second to roganstown of the 3.

Layout wise SM is by far the best of the three. Sadly it has gone from being one the best manacured, finest parklands in Dublin to a very average, rather shabby course, far from it's glory days.

It's such a shame but the money isn't there to bring it back to where it was.

Cant pick a winner, but one thing I can safely say is that all three would be extremely wet at the moment.

I think Corrstown has some great holes besides the 18th. How many golfers here have been on the 11th in two. I guess because I am a member I have never heard much criticism of the course but would like to know. The 2nd, 4th, 7th, 11th, 13th, 16th and 18th are very good holes in my opinion.

I would have to agree with you. It is a great course but I am a bit biased. The 11th sure is long I have yet to see someone reach it in 2. I'm very fond of the Meadow 9.

Do Corrstown ever have any opens? I see a few on the GUI site but there all in the summer. I know you can get a green fee for cheap but I prefer a competitive game.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 251 ✭✭MasterKZG

I wouldnt actually go to Corrstown for competition! You get ur money worth in St.Mags and there a chance u do well there coz of the wide fairway! It's forgiving enough! Corrstown bit tighter and the greens r slow!!

Been talked into playing St. Margarets tomorrow, I'm in two minds though...

Is it worth the €30?? A bit much maybe, thoughts??

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,617 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

It's worth €30 to play st. Mags imo, won't be in great condition, but it has enough to keep you interested anyway..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 717 ✭✭✭jimjo

Its not in a decent condition? I know the club mightn't be doing the best with the downturn but thought it might be a relatively good nick with this dry spell were having...

  • Subscribers Posts: 16,617 ✭✭✭✭copacetic

I meant with the coldest spring in 20 years and not much grass growth so far this year combined with the them appearing to be keeping it to less of a high standard than in the past, that it won't be in perfect nick. Although may be being unfair, haven't played in this year, but last 'summer' and late last year it wasn't in as good shape as other years.

However the €30 factors in the time of year so I think it's decent value..

Good man, thanks for that. Was looking for that type of info, reckon I'll keep it local and give it a miss, sanded greens are a pain the best of the times so no need to pay to play on them.:)

Jimjo, not a big fan of passing on second hand info, but i spoke to a guy a few weeks back who said the greens were '90% moss'. Obviously a bit of hyperbole there, but for what it's worth, there it is.

i feel like i have to stick up for mags on this one, now its in no way in as good condition as it use to be , but its not in bad condition either.
its not as manicured as it was but the greens were in fine condition the last time i played it.
mags is a fine layout plenty for all levels of handi cap. the last hole could grace any golf course, its a beauty.
    30euro a round is great value .
but i would check if the greens are sanded .(no fun playing on them)
