Wheelie Bin Thieves

Last night I realised my green wheelie bin had been nicked after the collection. I did some searching and discovered it in my next door neighbour's garden. They are a loud romanian family who are constantly seen rooting through skips and stealing bin tags (even though they get theirs off the social).

I went to their house and told them they took in my bin. Could have been a genuine mistake. This morning, in the light of day, I noticed 4 green bins in their back garden. Obviously not a mistake.

I rang Fingal Co Co and they said "Well if YOUR bin is gone, it's €30 to replace". They couldn't care less.

So what can I do? I can't figure out which houses the bins are from. Saw on some other forums it costs 120 to replace the bin. So that's €360 sitting in their garden that they've stolen. Do the Gardai care about this sort of thing? Should I just completely ignore it, bury my head in the sand and just keep a close eye on my own stuff?

Thieves of any kind just disgust me.

    **** on the bin handles.

Happened to me before. Green bin was nicked, even though it had big huge painted numbers of 27 on it. Forgot what we had to pay for a new one.

    Rubbish day tbh.

If you are to believe the Sunday World last week...they are having wild orgies !!

    You lucky bastcard !!!

Yes, do call the guardai! Theyre only going to keep it up if nobody does anything about it. It doesnt matter where they come from, they're still stealing.

Besides, how will the good people of fingal recycle newspapers, milk cartons and cardboard packaging if they have no green bins?

Couldnt tell from the OP, did they give you your bin back?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,559 ✭✭✭✭AnonoBoy

If they have four bins then chances are one of them is yours. Take it back in the middle of the night and paint your number on the side of it to prevent future 'misundertandings'.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,262 ✭✭✭Buford T Justice

Write your house number on yer bin maybe?

Steal them back at night, and steal theirs while you're at it.

This is the 2nd thread today that someone has put up this little gem. Why don't you just call him a racist instead of trying to be smart about it? Or, better yet, why not outline why you think he's a racist instead of just posting the above cliché in the hope of getting a few thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 193 ✭✭Ciaran187

The funny thing is, my house number IS on the side of the bin, and the front, and the lid, and that tax sticker.

They just don't care. I called to the house last night as soon as I saw it and took it back. They kept saying sorry, it was a mistake etc etc. I gave them the benefit of the doubt at that stage.

I should call Trent on them. Those yolks certainly wouldn't be had sex with.

The night before your next bin day,
Kidnap the family's pet / middle child and stick it's head on a pike in your garden.

Then paint your house number on your bin with white paint in very large obvious lettering.

That'll stop them stealing any more of your bins..

Appreciate your concern $hifty, but it's ok. I am. (Joking btw)

    You sound wheelie annoyed.

I agree with the "number on the side in big white paint". If that doesn't work .... brick thru the window.

you could put sometype of grouch in the bins they still have.

you know someone who lives in a bin but still sees fit to comment on other peoples lives

    Tell all the neighbours.
I'm sure the family doesn't go stealing in other estates, they just take what's in front of them.
If all the neighbours know where their bins are you can all act together.

For the record, I'm not actually defending you or your post. It's the laziness in trotting out the "I'm not a racist" line that irks me.

Fair enough. btw I'm actually not racist but some people do fall into their stereotype. This family is one of those.

I'll try to see what numbers are on the bins and tell the owners. This family know are friendly with a couple of people on the road so I don't want to start a fight.

It's not your fault they are thieves.
Stealing from strangers is one thing but stealing from neighbours/friends - inexcusable.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 8,015 ✭✭✭CreepingDeath

You should be concerned about what was in your green bin.

Eg. bank statements, credit card statements with your card number printed on them.

Classic tactic in identity theft too.

I have a paper shredder for all my financial stuff before it goes into the green bin.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,239 ✭✭✭✭WindSock

If they are the superstitious type, put some sort of a spell or talisman on your bin that they might recognise and they will stay away.

Just tell your neighbours where their bins are when you see them out on the street looking puzzled.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,230 ✭✭✭✭ejmaztec

Haven't all the bins got an id disc on them, so that they know whose sh1t they're taking away?

On second thoughts, be careful how far you follow this..

    um, what?
I knew someone would catch that.
It's never ok to steal but if you do it from friends it's even worse.

Get in the bin yourself and when they steal it jump out and lay the smack down.

    Off-topic :(
I do this too, only i bring my now useless fireplace back into use by burning mine as soon as I have read them, but then I get the problems. Which is whenever I decide to change mobile phone companies or setup a video store account I have to wait a few weeks until I get another bill/statement to do it and thast really annoying

Ironic if the OP is reunited with his bin after he's murdered and his body dumped inside it. Would bodies be re-cycling or non re-cycling?

Solution: Start dumping all your rubbish in their garden. And urge your neighbours to do the same :pac:

I remember something about that as well.
    Edit: linkage

Anyway, if you're going sneaking around at night to get your bin back, take a tin of paint with you and paint on the front of their house in large letters, "Your missing bins are in the back garden of this house."
Take pics of the shenanigans for posting though!

Yes, apparently they hide the wheelie bins in the voluminous folds of their petticoats and smuggle them through airport security that way...

OP, your neighbour stole your wheelie bin. You intrepidly located it and reclaimed it. Well done! but why was their nationality or ethnicity relevant?

If you believe Romanians, (though I think you probably mean Roma people) are prone to thieving, then have the b4lls to say it.

Looking through them for bank statements and other such letters.

People through out their bank statements every month?

Do you not keep them for your records?

I've got a filing box full of the buggers.

When I do throw out the really old ones I put them through a shredder first.

Ain't nobody stealing my identity.

    Nobody would want it. :(

Why bother keeping them? I can print off a statement of my entire account history any time I like, so what's the use in holding on to the monthly crap.

It may not even be as simple as that. As I was saying, and Nevore linked to, a lot of them are being taken over to Romania. Sure maybe it's the county council who are paying off Romanians to take the bins to their homeland, so that all the Irish people will be forced to pay for new ones! :D

The family were from Romania, the OP called them Romanian. You had a problem with the fact that he felt the need to call people from Romania Romanians. What's wrong with calling them what they are? Do you agree that they are most probably Romanians? Do you think they would have a problem with being called Romanians? Course they bloody don't.

    +100%

I can't stand scumbags like this either, roma or not.

The fact that the op mentioned in passing they were roma is perfectly normal as far as I am concerned. His post was not centred around the fact that they were roma, he just mentioned it in passing. PC Idiocy retardation would probably expect people to self censor what they say and omit details like ethnicity for fear of offending but so long as it is accurate I see no problem with it.
