hi, i'm currently on my first learner permit which is due to expire in a few weeks i was wondering can i go to renew it early or do i have to wait until it expires?

You can renew it early. I think they prefer you to be a few weeks early rather than waiting till it expires. If you're dropping in to the office they'll give you a receipt which can be used if you get stopped until you receive your new one:)
