Hi guys i'm from the republic and have just applied for the 2010 drive for PSNI recruiting, i am married with 3 children in a 9-5 job all the usual bills and bore, my wife is behind me a 100% on this, we both find the idea of a new life very exciting. I have being giving this some serious thought for quite a while now and feel the time is right, i know i might not even get past 1st phase but i'd just like to know has anyone else with a family joined and how did ye settle in etc.

Without giving away too much information about yourself, you'll have to decide whether to tell the kids what your new job will be or not, and then stick to it. If you tell one kid, it will be leaked to the others in time, and they in turn leak it out to their classmates. That's just how kids are.

I know a few people who uprooted their family and they have no problems at all, as long as you move to a sensible location when the time comes.

Thanks psni, we have decided we will be straight with the kids if please god the time comes when we have to, we believe we have to be honest from the outset with them obviously we won't tell them anything unless things progress and this dream becomes a reality, i'm glad to hear of the few people you know who have uprooted successfully, sensible location i think being the key if that time comes and hopefully it will.

My girlfriend is just getting her head around the idea and we have a young child so it will be a big move as were from Cork and dont have any contacts up north and dont know the area either.
