Hi there just wondering when it comes to starsigns do you take it with a pinch of salt or do you read more into it? I have a big interest in this area and whenever I meet a new guy will check out how compatible we are usually its a good indication on how we will get on...

By the way I found a great website astrologyzone.com Susan Miller she does a monthly forecast which is usually spot on for me anyway!

I dont believe in them at all. One website will tell you one thing, one will tell you another thing. The papers tell you one line and then ask you to pay 50 gazillion euro to find out the rest. I think its BS to be honest. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Sun signs as what appears in papers and other publications tend to be utter clap trap.
A properly constructed natal chart and charts which pull from that are certainly more intresting, but I would not live my life by it.
I prefer http://www.astro.com as the information there in the sections on the planet and houses is pretty good.

always enjoyed the personalities aspect of it, im shockingly typical for my sign, but never paid the predictions etc any notice at all, outside of pure fun.

I can't get my head around a 12th of the planet sharing particular characteristics or events in their lives. I don't think people have a particular destiny so I guess the whole idea of being able to map something that has yet to pass just doesn't make any sense to me.

Its utter nonsense, a friend of mine used to work for a newspaper and whoever didnt have much to do at the end of the evening made up the star sign page, they used to joke about it in the office as they came up with the most random stuff ,"luck finds a red door" "a new man awaits" sh1t like that. How anyone could believe that star constellations millions of light years away have any bearing on your personality is beyond me, but everyone to their own and all that. and star signs are usually "spot on" because they're so random and vague you can attach them to any insignifigant moment in your life and pass it off as foretold in the heavens, its 2010 for christs sake:rolleyes:

I don't think it any more weird then the Aian ones which are based on blood type.

On the brink of turning 30, lol but I seriously don't take it all to be true I know myself a lot of bull**** but some of the starsign traits I find are very spot on..not really on about the horoscope in the papers i dont read them they are really bad!!!

That's very true - I didn't mean to imply that any other type of astrology was any less weird or believable. :D

They're fun to read and all, but I don't take them seriously. I mean, Geminis are supposed to be outgoing, but I'm the complete opposite of that

I don't believe in it at all, but I still read mine when they pop up anywhere.

    Especially here

If they predict something good, I believe them. If they predict something bad, I don't :D

I would read them if I have a paper in my hands, wouldnt go looking for them though, never read too much into them either!

    This is a good site:
    http://www.novareinna.com/constellation/index.html

I don't believe weekly/daily horoscopes, but some of the traits of signs are interesting. I'm a cusp sign.

My mother is an astrologist/tarot card reader/palm reader and psychic.

    She's pretty accurate!

    It's spooky!

She also told me revcently that the last time that she went for a tarot reading (you're not supposed to do your own) that the woman she went to was able to tell her starsign AND mine the minute my mother walked in the room! And I wasn't even in the country at the time. Now THAT is weird.

I find the ones in the papers tend to be very generalised but they have to be so that they match at least one person. I find that if you go to an astrologer yourself, everything becomes much more specific!

No offence but I seriously doubt that:rolleyes:

I have been studying astrology for more than 15 years now, and I find it absolutely fascinating and very accurate when it comes to psychological traits and interactions among people; I am talking about constructing birth charts, not the mindless Sun sign stuff in the newspapers.

It is not a science, as there is at present no way of knowing how exactly (in a physical sphere) those planets and stars influence our lives.

It is not a religion, as faith is not required here; empirical method is where it's at!

It has, among other things, been a valuable tool for coping with life's problems for me, and I am absolutely unapologetic about it. If it is "whatever works", then astrology is what works for me!

I believe in astrology, as in finding your birth chart, etc. - I know some horoscopes in tabloids, etc. can be trash but I do think there's truth behind the idea.
If the moon can affect the tides on Earth, and our bodies are made up mostly of water...

Star signs, particularly as you see in newspapers, magazines etc... are a complete joke. I am open minded that there is potential behind astrology but that's a different matter.

The way I see it, everyone has their own destiny in their own hands. But I do think that certain things are mapped out and presented to us. What we do when those things are presented to us sets us off on different life paths.

I have come across some strange "co-incidences" in life that are way way more than just a co-incidence.

You sound pretty smart to me .Must sign off , I am 2 hrs ahead of Ireland.
I just would like to put one thing straight ,because I like truth and accuracy
and this is for those interested.
The signs you see in the Magazines ,and whatever ,have nothing to do with the STARS/Zodiac signs as they exist today.
So a Scorpio is from approx. 16th Nov -16th Dec.
So a Saggitarius from approx. 17thDec. -14th Jan. and so on.
Such different energies, and such different consequences.
Most astrologers are unfortunatly not very educated ,and tend to follow
superstitious ways, but done properly it is very interesting and can be useful
    to self understanding.

I dont put any belief into the ones printed up in papers/rags/magazines...but i will have a quick look anyway:p

i wouldn't give a second's thought to weekly horoscopes and stuff, but i'm not asss cynical about the overall personality traits. even though i feel i should know better and it's just a classic case of confirmation bias.
examples of this confirmation bias... as an aquarius i find i really DO seem to have a good connection with libras haha.

i don't refer to them much, but a couple times i've typed in my sign and the sign of some boy i dig to see how compatible they say we are haha. i never make any decisions based on what it says, it's more to see if they get it right.

just like to add that while horoscopes seem to be completely different in each different publication, the personality/compatibility profiles do seem to be pretty consistent across the few different sites i've seen.

I will be the very one to sit with a paper and spend 10 minutes imagining what will happen this week, and try to link in in with the OH's horoscope... all done in pure fun.

However, they are pure rubbish and I dont believe that horoscopes are a means to live your life by! :D

It's all b*****ks to be honest. Agree with this:

And astronomically speaking the dates for each sign are off by a month anyhow, so if you think you were born under one sign, you would actually have been born under the preceding one.

And just because somebody decided that a group of stars resembles something doesn't mean it has any influence - Geminis aren't twofaced or have split personality, Taurus aren't stubborn (bull-headed). At least no more than any other people. These signs don't look anything like what they represent and could easily have been called something else.

I prefer to read into the Eastern astrologies such as birth year, elemental signs and such. They're fun to read but I rarely take them seriously. Granted, I've had a few WTF moments over the year (Accuratly predicted a small windfall down to the amount and day I got it O.o ) but I generally take them with a pinch of salt.

That said, the traits assosiated with various signs tend to be quite accurate.

FYI: I am an Arien, born in the year of The Dragon ('88) and my elemental sign is Fire. Basically, I'm a headstrong, stubborn she-dragon with a fiery personality! :D

I don't believe the horoscopes but I do find the personality aspects of Star Signs very interesting. I just had to share this gem of a horoscope I found today though :pac:
Someone in your neighborhood has disappeared, Libra. No one has seen this person for a while, and no word has been left with anyone. Gossip could spread like wildfire as everyone imagines the worst. Listening to rumors probably doesn't appeal to your sense of fairness; nonetheless, you're wondering, too. Your neighbors will probably experience a mixture of relief and disappointment when your friend turns up alive, well, and in good spirits. Mystery (mostly) solved!

    Like, wtf? :pac:

Ok firstly I don't know much on the subject but I have a few thoughts on it. I'm presuming that the idea is that the time of year you were born and it's affiliated stars has an effect on your personality/destiny. However there are an array of influences on a person's personality/life course - why not look a little closer to home? For example what about the seasons? I am a capricorn, which supposedly makes me a serious, anxious and pessimistic person (that's true actually - heh.) But could that have something to do with the fact I was born in the depths of winter as opposed to the line up of the stars. Imagine the effects the seasons would have on a pregnant woman, her body, her diet, her psychology... It makes sense to me anyway, but I like I said i don't claim to know anything on the subject it's just a suggestion.

That's a very hemisphere-ist thing to say ;-) wouldn't a reasonably equal distribution of capricorns be born in warm Decembers?

A lot of it is just pure cold reading which is easy to do because a lot of people have similar hopes dreams ambitions. I wouldnt believe in any of that stuff only I happen to know someone who really is psychic.

The hooscopes like the ones above are pure nonsense ,and encourage superstition.
Real astrology is more scientific and uses true astronomy.
The 'star 'signs in magazines etc are pure fiction ,and they are not related to Zodiac signs.

You have obviously thought about this ,and much of what you say is true.
However why would Saggitarians who are born in late December [yes that is the correct astronomy],be the most cheerful of signs.
Capricorn is mid Jan /mid Feb.
Telling the future with so little info. is very malign ,but even with more info .it is bad ,because as soon as you take in hand what the chart shows about you ,if it is negative ,then you turn a new page if you are willing to change.
It really shows your level of EVOLUTION,and it shows your past.
Your future will depend on you ,your free will ,and your spiritual level of maturity.
A chart is a complicated thing ,as are human beings

I normally don't take them seriously, just have a look to see if there are any coincidences out of curiosity.

Though there is some horoscope app on facebook, which has an unsettling number of coincidences.
