I've notices a few subscribers no longer have their trademark avatar and i'm wondering is there many others like me that just can afford the €50 this time around??

Chillax, Boards is free. Subscription is purely voluntary....it's €50 for one year and for that you get.....emmmm, uhhhhhh, oh yea coloured stars. :cool:

UserCP -> Edit your details -> Custom User Title

change it to whatever you want, then click the save changes button.

As far as I know only subscribers can change the text under their username.

I get the quarterly subscription. Doesn't seem as bad forking out €13 every 3 months, instead of €50 at once :P

Used the site for years, always said when I get a job I'd subscribe to help keep it going.

I figure if you can afford it and use it often, then subscribe. It's 50e, you'd happily p1ss it up against the wall on a night out you'd possibly forget.*

I subscribed for a while (2 years I think) but in the last six months I've been giving money to electricians, plasterers, painters and carpenters and towards a new buggy, car seat, car seat base, cot, cot mattress, nursery furniture...etc. No spare money any more but hey, with a newly decorated house and a baby on the way, I'm not complaining

I could afford to subscribe, but I choose not to. I also use adblock so I see no ads.

Effectively, due to the bandwidth I consume browsing the site, I am a financial drain on Boards.

I subscribed last year because I thought I get so much out of boards, it's worth giving something back. This year I won't be doing so. Sadly though, without warning, €50 was taken out of my paypal... so I got onto them to refund me. The reason I'm not subbing anymore? 1. It's definitely not worth €50/yr, considering places like SA are €10 for life... and now boards is part of a bigger organisation with daft. More money involved... so it's not my responsibility to "give back" to a business

I do remember a thread opened to Subbies about 6months ago which was to survey subscribers asking them what improvements/features would they live...I do recall an announcement that more features were on the way but that didnt happen.

It is a fine balancing act I'd imagine as you would certainly not want a case where being a subscriber would alienate the non-subscribing community (like I am a part of currently)...I do miss my avatar

I'm sure I will renew my subscription, I cant count the number of times I've come to Boards looking for an answer and got it, and for the number of times I've fell out of my chair with teh LULz.

I dont agree that Subs are not needed now that Boards has grown, is part of a bigger portfolio and has Ads, correct me if I'm wrong but I assume that most of that revenue goes towards upkeep and maintainence? Mods work for free and sometimes it is 'work' so for that and many udder reasons I will not buy them magic beans I've been eyeing up, I'll sub to Boards.

That's what I would have thought. I'd have no problem donating cash when it's a voluntarily run community, but boards is more of a business these days. Not saying that's a bad thing, I just didn't think they'd still need charitable donations.

My custom avatar ( a Cheetah ) lay dormant in my User CP but has vanished since I replaced it with yer man on the left
