Got whole house exterior painted last summer.
Used good paint, white Weathershield. After the cold weather of the past few weeks the paint on the south facing wall, back of the house is blistering and falling off. It's not even done 9 months. Anyone any idea'splease

have seen internal paint peeling after recent cold weather,

things to consider ....Is there any sign of dampness in the walls, recently built ?, were they painted previously, pebble dash or smooth ? Is there plaster on the back of the peeling paint

My thinking is dampness in the walls, cold freezes the mortar/plaster which expands causing the mortar to crumble on the surface and hence paint to loose its grip!

    Hi Robbie,
    Thanks for reply,
....Is there any sign of dampness in the walls, No
    ....recently built ?, No
    ....were they painted previously, Yes
.....pebble dash or smooth ? Smooth
.....Is there plaster on the back of the peeling paint No

Painted north and west facing walls in Crown Weathershield, no problem
Back wall (peeling) was painted at the same time with Sandtex exterior

    Any thoughts????

    Hi Robbie,
Paint was bought new from McPhersons.
Reason 2 different paints, use Crown on front and side as it was coloured.
Sandtex on the rear of the house.
    Thanks

    many possibilties to consider

if paint is peeling off in "sheets" it may mean the paint is probably ok (its holding together)
Is the previous paintwork staying on the wall or coming off with the sandtex

if paint is flaking into little bits then the paint may be the problem e.g was'nt stirred, dirty walls ,

is there any fungal attack -scrub a bit of bleach on and see does your paint turn green/orange

    sometimes theres no explanation

if your going to paint it again try E-B bond mixed with your paint,

.... is peeling off in "sheets" not sheets but large chunks say 4 inches

.... Is the previous paintwork staying on the wall or coming off with the sandtex, stayinig on the wall.

...... if paint is flaking into little bits then the paint may be the problem e.g was'nt stirred, dirty walls , not flakes

....... is there any fungal attack -scrub a bit of bleach on and see does your paint turn green/orange.... will do

if your going to paint it again try E-B bond mixed with your paint, will do

Might try again in the summer.

E_B Primer for dusty surfaces which is mixed with first coat of paint,

It is only necessary if a known problem exists or you dont want to take any chances,
If peeling is caused by dampness it may not be the solution.
