This has the feel of the first real biggie on the 2010 PGA calender. It also marks the return to action for Padraig Harrington after a long winter break. According to the expert picks on pgatour.com Harrington has two top ten finishes in this tournament in the last two runnings of it so he has to figure in the reckoning. Phil Mickelson is going for a hatrick of victories in this tournament so it's hard to look past him and he would be my pick for the week.

Harrington at 25/1 may be worth a few euro each way

Yep, Harrington @ 25/1 and Imada at 100/1 will be my each way bets. I'll have a straight win bet on Mickelson also.

As far as I know he missed the cut last year, however he was in the process of changing his swing, he may also be a bit rusty as its his first Tourney back from his winter break but with PH anything is possible.
Im going for Rory Sabbatini and D Johnson but then again after my last few bets last week and previous id probally have more success closing my eyes and picking that way

You are correct. I read it wrong first time round.
PADRAIG HARRINGTON. As the TOUR's top Paddy fanatic, I'm pleased he's still available at this point. But it's more than merely picking with my heart. Prior to a MC at Riviera in '09, he finished top 10 the two previous years here. Time to make an early statement.

Not a great start for Padraig, +1 on hole 16.Started on the back nine though so he has time to turn it around.

He is +1 but has played 17 holes. He started on the 10th, currently on the 9th (his 18th).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Finished +1, 8 shots off the lead. Dustin Johnson burning it up with an opening 64.

I see Harrington only hit 6 greens today, so +1 is a great score considering.. He'll need to improve a lot tomorrow to make the cut. Wonder if he is using the old ping wedge??

    Nice picking there L.O.F.T!

What the f*ck was Stricker thinking, not shouting fore at the 10th last night?! He hit it straight at the gallery, in plain view and clocked a chap in the head with a 300 yard drive!

    Idiot.

Ive seen Phil Mickelson hit it wide into the gallery beside us at Sawgrass and on aproaching the gallery member he asked who he it to see if they were ok,Mickelson said sorry and he handed the gallery member a signed glove and $50 inside which was only discovered when Mickelson was gone down the fairway.

Wouldn't suprise me in the slightest, thorough gentleman.

With how wayward he can be (and how obviously wealthy he is), I bet he has a special pocket in his golf bag for signed gloves containing 50 bucks... maybe 'Bones' checks that there is ample stock on the range depending on how Big Phil is warming up :)

I have to say Mickelson and Harrington are the standouts, always interacting with the galleries, signing autographs approachable and genuinely sound. I know Mickelson gets a bit of stick for what may be perceived as over the top smiling and tipping the cap but Id follow him or PH any day before id follow Woods or Garcia for example. Mickelsons interaction with Bones is also great to listen to prior to him picking a club to suit his yardage. One other thing that I was shocked with is seeing Harrington and Mickelson up close. Harrington must be 6 foot plus and Mickelson the same, both in serious good shape and fit as fiddles. I always thought from watching them on TV that they were carrying a few extra pounds but in real life they cut a different look.

Anybody have a sopcast for this? :)

    http://www.veetle.com/viewChannel.php?cid=489e78e9b8936

but think it works from 10pm, you'll also have to download veetle but it only takes a minute or two.

If that doesn't work try any other link from myp2p, you'll get a link but it mightn't be the best quality or maybe it'll be grand.

Ya I have Veetle but find Sopcast way better.

    Thanks anyway

Have 50c each way on Barnes (225/1...i think) and a euro each way on Lowery(400/1....i think):pac:

Birdie at the first for Harrington to get it back to level par. Mickelson made amends for yesterdays difficult round with a 66 to lie on -4 after two rounds. Stricker holds a three shot lead currently after a second round 65.

Couldn't agree more with you, both come across as class acts. Last week when Mickelson put his ball in the tree, he laughed and joked with the gallery then passed the guy who climbed up a signed glove and was very appreciative of the guy's help, couldn't imagine that Woods would react the same way in the past but he'll have to change his tune whenever he comes back.

Good start to the coverage, Dustin Johnson with a hole in one on the par 3 6th.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,591 ✭✭✭✭Aidric

Just switched on to sky's coverage there in time to see a shocking birdie attempt by Harrington at 10. He is back to +1 for the tournament, right on the cutline and well out of contention.
Weather is nasty at the moment so can't see many low scores coming in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,690 ✭✭✭Whyner

Ok, so Jack Dee is on Sky again and was asked when his next tournament is.

He replied "I'm off to Columbia soon, had some requests from mates but obviously I can't do that"...hilarious...

great to see them playing in such tough conditions,Rose just hit a full hybrid to a par 4 fron 217,

Poor start to the season from Harrington missing the cut. Stricker currently holds a four shot lead over Donald, both having played 11.

I think Luke Donald is worth keeping an eye on this year. He's having a good tournament, seems to be injury free and if stays like that could be one to follow!

Stricker is just too good.Well, too solid is more accurate.Mistakes from him are very very rare. And he starts cryin' after every win.Top bloke!

he may win once and that's it,he's never been prolific but to be fair on a course like this which played longer than normal it was a very good performance for a short hitter like Donald
