deriving contact lens prescription from glasses prescription

I'm shortsighed (-1) and have been diagnosed with a very slight astigmatism in my left eye only. My optician advised leaving my glasses the way they were but I got a new lens put in anyway and much prefer the upgrade despite what the optician said!

Is it possible for me to order toric contacts online using the figures axis/cylinder I see on my updated glasses prescription or do I need to have another contact lens checkup to get the correct information for contacts?

On yourlenses.ie i see when ordering torics you need to input ax and cyl. I've got a matching 180 in AX but i've got -.25 in my perscription for cyl where as the only choices given range from -.75 to -2.25. Would this mean I should select -0.75 as it is closest to -.25 or would that be completely wrong? Or maybe there is no CL for me as -0.75 would be to strong.

    Please help,
    Clueless

Contact lenses can correct small amounts of atigmatism and that is why you can not order less than -0.75. If your glasses Rx has only a cyl of -0.25 then you don't need toric contact lenses.

But I find a huge difference with the glasses, what would you advise then?

By the way did you mean to say ' can NOT correct small amounts of astigmatism..)' as it doesn't make much sense otherwise :)

Contact lenses have a thin layer of tears between the back of the lens and the front surface of the eye. This layer of tears act like a lens and can change the effective power of the contact lens. They can correct small amounts of astigmatism in the case of soft lenses and large amounts in the case of hard lenses, depending on the type of lens and the fit.
