Good price for a '01, was talking to the owner and it went through the NCT last Monday week. No service history though! All she needs is a set of M-Parallels! Pity it's not blue!

    Looks cheap.
I friend in the uk was selling a 96 740 sport there a while ago. It was going for about 1400. I was awful tempted. The sport still looks fresh imo

Have a look on Pistonheads for any '98-'01 7series - you wont find anything as cheap, never mind the VRT. Then again their road tax is what - £250?

Depends on what you want. Some people are happy with a 1.4 petrol 75BHP engine in their Skoda Octavia which would be perfectly adequate for their needs. A 728 is fine for normal driving, but imho the car needs the poke and grunt of a big V8. No diesel either thanks :)

At that price? Or have there been pricedrops? Price seems good to me, but then again nobody seems to be buying sub €10k highest tax cars :(

If only. The 928 has a belt. For shame  I should have stuck with BMWs :D

Looks like trouble to me. Zero history and a low price. Its also poorly spec'd and the owner seems to have trouble putting a sentence together. If he has trouble writing, he could have at least got someone else to do the ad.

It's a super car, don't fall on the last hurdle over something like car colour. Sure it could always be sprayed. :)

That's not bad! The tax will always be painful, but buy a good 'un that needs no major work and chances are your total cost of ownership will be lower than most people think (they were for me)

The E38 is a very nice big saloon to drive and it is a very comfortable and pleasant place to sit in.

I remember a thread like this before had a 535 sport in Leitrim for buttons. Only over the road from me but I had just bought my house and was strapped.

I was gutted when I missed it.

Pity about the walnut dash and trim, that made it look dated the second it left the factory, never mind 10 years later.

But still, hand it to the guy (or girl) well priced so probably won't sit for long! How I'd love to justify this purchase.

Seems a good enough price. I know someone who recently sold a 01 525i with 113k miles for €3k, though it was manual and had no leather.

    Ode To The Motorist

“And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, generates funds to the exchequer. You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”

Not really. That's about all it's worth. Shows some folk ain't really tapped into the 2010 market. 07/08 the equivalent vintage examples were worth a lot more, now they're worth peanuts. Remember the '98 535i on sale here last year? - great spec with loads of history, couldn't be given away at 1600 - almost bought it back :)

Thats just me though, I find any car with that wood effect really dated looking!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,056 ✭✭✭Tragedy

I'm with you. There's only one wooden interior I can just about stand, and even then I much prefer the sporty(non wooden) version.

Been keeping half an eye out for a worthy S8 for the last six months.
One day, oh yes, one day :)

Lovely cars but 2.8 is the bare minimum for hauling it's fat ass around. It's better suited in the 528. I've a '95 740i sitting outside. Can't justify the tax at the moment. It goes like stink but & passes almost anything but a petrol station.

I wouldn't really call a 728 a performance car. It's not slow but it's certainly not that fast.

That certainly is a lot of car for the money. Seriously quick too. Pulls like a truck right through the rev range & never runs out of steam. The tax is the only killer. €1600 for the year!!!!!

They're not too bad on fuel if you drive long distance with lots of motorway but around town you'll be lucky to climb past the high teens.!!! :p

Truth in what you're saying but what's the point in having a 740 if you cannot afford to run it? 728, although it has to work harder, is a much more economical car to run. Peformance - no, cheap luxobarge - most definitely.
