Just noticed this evening that the Sky player is now part of Windows Media Centre. A nice addition if you are already a multiroom subscriber as you can have Sky on demand access along with your FTA channels and DTT channels with the right tuner cards.

Can it still only be used at the same address as the multiroom subscription?

Your Sky viewing card details are needed to register. That is all so after that it could be used on the move as long as your account is multiroom. Some of the streams like Nat Geo dont seem to require a multiroom sub and you can also pay for access if you are not a Sky subscriber at all. You could have MCE on a laptop without any tuners and still use Sky Player

Actually I remembered something coming up about the player registering my IP address so maybe it locks down to IP ranges for Ireland or similar. Or maybe it limits to a single IP address for the computer that you activate the player on which would be no good for a laptop and mobility

How do you download this onto your PC, I can't find a link anywhere on SkyPlayer or on WMC

For the Sky Player you access through a browser they have this on their site.

"Registration takes place automatically the first time you watch TV, until you have 4 computers registered. You will then need to remove an existing computer registration to watch TV with Sky Player on an additional computer."

I think you can unregister a computer and register a new one, once every month. I don't know if it's the same with Media Player. Probably. I don't know how they keep a track of the computers details. If it is IP then the PC can't move.
A media centre PC probably isn't going to move too much though.

I am on Windows 7 and I got an automatic update on Tue night that enabled it.

It appears beside to the left of the TV and Movies menus and also there are channels added to the end of your TV guide. Presume you can switch it off too.

Do you need a TV card on your laptop to use this?

No, this is Sky Player over broadband same as the web version but integrated with the nice Windows Media Center look and feel for program info and guide etc.

But it could be very useful on a Windows 7 laptop say for when you go on holidays or a business trip and have BB access in a hotel
