Really looking forward to going down and watching some great performances this weekend. In particular looking forward to seeing how Hesh gets on and how the young pretenders fare against him (Adams, Colvert, Russell etc)

The mens 400 to see how quick Gregan will go and again the junior talent on show - hoping to see someone like Paul Scanlan go low 48. Is Gillick planning on racing indoors this year, as he isn't down to race this weekend so I'm guessing he's not doing Doha.

Womens sprint hurdles, see if Dervals up for another World indoor title ...

Mens 800; one of our strongest events at the moment, McCarthy running a superb 1:48.29 recently, and with the likes of McBrearty and Patterson unning should be exciting. No Chamney?

Womens 60 looks to be the most closely contested race - with Whelan, Foster, Boyle, McSweeney and now Brady all going for gold. Would love to see Derval run this as well :)

Oh and of course another NR from Kelly Proper will be nice!

    Cant wait!

Great to see such speed with results this year in domestic and international races. They have really got their act together

I'm looking forward to seeing David McCarthy (Le Cheile version) run the 800 after his 1:48. It'll be interesting to see how he runs it. Will he try control it and take by the scruff of the neck or will it be a battle. Will McIlroy be in shape. If its a scuffle, you can't rule out Joe Warne and he has a 1:50 this season.

Any chance of stickying this for this weekend?

Anyone know of any Americans or Brits entered?

Just a reminder that AAI are tweeting the results, if you don't want to wait 'til they post full results.

    Men's 5k RW is underway:
Heffernan thru 3k in 11:29. Griffin now 14 secs behind and Costin still within 3 secs of him. Record pace has dropped and unlikely.

Claire Brady sets another PB, running 7.43! She might very well get teh World indoor standard before the season's out.

Bit of a suprise as Brian Gregan didn't qualify for the A final in the 400m. He won his heat, but in a pedestrian (for him) 49.74, which wasn't in the 4 fastest times across all heats required to qualify. I'm sure he's going to bomb it in the B-final though to compensate! :p He'll have Gordon Kennedy for company.

Claire Wilkinson sets U23 record of 3.90m in PV.

Deirdre Byrne wins 3000m, just outside qualifying standard in 9.03.xx (the standard's 9.03). Think she's running a few 1500m over the next fortnight.

Gregan Kennedy and Ryan all in the B gonna be just as good as the A race

Colin Costello in the mens 1500. Very interesting!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

Caoimhe King with new NJR in TJ.

Kelly McNeice denies Deirdre Byrne a double in the 1500m.
Colin Costello in the mens 1500. Very interesting!!

    ...and he won!

Derval opens with an 8.29 in the 60mh heats. From her blog, it seems that a small injury setback prevented her from hurdling practice, so I'm sure she'll be racing as much as she can over the next three weeks to knock the rust out.

Brian Gregan wins B-final in 47.58, which is another PB. Can he take .58 off that before Doha?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 90 ✭✭Ceekay

It's fantastic to see Colin Costello back and winning. Lets hope he gains the encouragement to fulfill his true talent.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,614 ✭✭✭Rineanna

DO'R wins 60mh in 8.19. For reference, she ran 8.12 same time last year, so not a million miles behing where she was then before going on to run 7.97 later that season, despite the injury.

Kourash Faroughi out of HJ, with Pender clear at 2.15m. Adrian O' Dwyer was in the mix too, over 2.10m.

What was the craic with the 400m:confused:
Looking at the results it appears they had 8 heats with just the 4 fastest going straight into the final.

The fact that they didn't have semis is beyond a joke imo.

Some run by Gregan though in that B race.

Anyone know Costello's time for the 1500?

    Claire Brady 7.35!!!!!

    Qualified for World indoors!

    Great Run By Brady :)

Ciara Mageean won 800m in a new indoor junior record of 2.07.82...... :D
nearly a full 3 seconds better than her best 800m indoor time last year...

if she could cut the same of her 1500m indoor time from last year she would be very close to the world indoor qual time of 4.15.00...

Anyone have an idea of her plans over the next few weeks ...
    maybe a 1500m in england ???

Anyone know where and when Derval's next outing might be ???
    Is Gillick doing indoors ??

Big performances by Clair Brady and Ciara Mageean.
Bit of a surprise in the HJ, good to see first 3 over 2.10.

It was my first time at the Odyssey, what a fantastic venue !! I'll never be able to look at Nenagh in the same light again.:)

If you were a 400 runner would you fancy running 3 400s in less than 20 hours? System makes sense to me. Athletes are fully aware of whats needed. It also means you get a cracking race in each heat as guys are pushing for A Final slots and B Final slots. No change needed in my opinion. You are giving out for the sake of giving out. I know a dozen or so athletes who competed in the 400 this weekend and they don't have an issue.

Just to add, 3 of the finalists had indoors PBs in both their heat and semi.

Got back late last night form the Oddeysey, great weekend of action!

    Perosnal highlights;

    1. Mens 800m - one of our strongest events and a good race despite the slowish pace, great to see the two Letterkenny lads battling to the line, both are promising talents as well. McIlory looked a class act. Bit dodgy though the way he was given a pacemaker in his heat. Not on that to be honest.

    2. Womens 60m - Brady blew them away, super run!

    3. Mageen in the 800m - Whole stadium cheering her on to get the junior record which created a great atmosphere

    4. Pender winning the high jump - Barry is a brillaint high jumper but unfortuantley Koroush is around so he rarely wins anything. Sot it was ncie to see him win.

    5. Costello's comeback - Such a talent, hopefully see him fulfill his promise this year

    6. Mens 60m - bit lower down on my list because of Hession losing over a tenth from a couple of years ago (just not as sharp? not tapering training?) However it was brilliant to see Dean Adams give him a really good race over 30m, then the Hesh's class showed. Gutted for Chris Russell pullign up with what looked like another hamstring injury

For once after a National Indoors we are glad that Kieran Kelly is not declared for Ireland. I read somewhere that Geoff Capes (their coach) has also been defrocked by UKA although they say its not related to this.

Geoff Capes--the policeman shot putter? Any ideas why?
