My brother asked me to look into getting some type of in-car media player for his car to entertain the kids. The problem is everything specific to a media player (not DVD player) that reads off an SD / SDHC card seems to be made in China / Hong Kong and available on those cheapy websites. And it's tough to know how quality will be (more than likely awful).

Thought this looked decent for €40 delivered though. Like I said.. it'd probably not great quality but for €40, it's not too shabby!

Take note of the measurements as this looks alot bigger than it is!

Put into perspective, an Iphone has a 3.5" screen this has a 4.3"

Saying that it looks decent for the price

Yeah.. true.. it is quite small.

    But useful for kids!

[OT]Oh and witnessmenow, simplistic mod went without a hitch! Cheers for the advice![/OT]

€40 is over the limit allowed for import duty from outside EU, so beware.

I've bought phones over e100 from deal extreme with no problems. Maybe the fact that they were iPhone clones they were hardly going to charge me 20% of the difference of an iPhone or else I was just lucky. I uses the above service but I doubt it really makes a difference but for a cent you have nothing to lose

    Built-in rechargeable 1500mAh battery
At that price, you'd have to wonder how long that would last/continue to hold a charge. Presumably the yoke has to be binned once the battery dies — it sure doesn't look like it's replaceable. It'd be nice to see some reviews/ratings...

Grand and cheap 'though. His kids will probably lose it/break it in jig time, anyway.

I bought a Philips portable dvd player with 10" screen a few years ago for mainly using in the car but use it on holidays in hotel rooms too. It was a great investment and it plays divx and xvid from USB/SD card/DVD. You can get refurb'd ones on ebay for about 100 quid. Even ALDI do ones similar often enough on the cheap. The screen on the DX one might be a bit small unless they get one each and the sound in a car may be drowned out. Maybe a DS is a better investment as they can play video too if you reencode it and have a TT card or similar.

I got an Archos 605 40GB player (now it is a refurb) 4 months ago from these guys. Free p+p too.

It's a little chunky but excellent.
It does need a download to unlock certain aspects like some video codecs and the internet browser but you can get all the packs for cheap on ebay

    Highly recommended :)

I bought a 42 inch Philips tv from Luzerntech for 800 euro and tv broke after 2 years. They were a nightmare to deal with and would do nothing at all for me.
    Steer clear from them
