Summer cycling in Corsica or Sardinia?

I am planning a family holiday in June.

I have narrowed the choices to resorts in Sardinia and Corsica.

I've done these holidays before (without the cycling), and the resorts are pretty hateful but the kids love it and there's enough organised kiddie-club nonsense that we get a bit of a break.

Anyone know what the cycling is like in these places? I can take a road bike or cross bike depending on conditions.

The basic plan is to go hammering around on my bike every morning before it gets too hot (maybe 4 hours) then spend time with the family in the afternoon.

Regular visitor to Sardinia, got married there a couple of years back, not familiar with the south coast as direct flights from Dublin land in Alghero.
My experience with the North coast is that the roads are quite good (much better than lil' ol' Eire) but not quite Italian Alps etc. - though we only drove on them. I thought that the coastal roads around Alghero - Bosa and north to Porto Torres were spectacular and would love to have had the bike with me.

Out of interest are you thinking of flying to Cagliari or driving from Alghero?

I think that skedaddle or some such use Sardinia as a "classic road" location.

Researched travelling to Corsica as part of the honeymoon, but the lack of direct flights (in '08 anyway) put paid to it. Can ferry it from Porto Torres as far as I know.

    Oh for some sun...

I was in Sardinia in May. Best place I have ever cycled. Plenty of good climbing and good smooth roads. You would be fine with the road bike unless you wanted to head down some white roads which are clearly marked on maps and the Garmin. I'd say the road bike would be more fun. I met some other people who had been cycling in Corsica as well and they preferred Sardinia, can't remember why.

Wherever you go, can I come? I'm completely fascinated by the notion of a spouse permitting her OH to disappear off for 4 hours a day whilst on holiday and I want to pick up tips on how to negotiate such a deal.

    (Yes, I'm whipped.)

Ah, well it's not quite that easy.

I'm looking for places with included childcare so I can disappear guilt-free all morning.

edit: hmmm, Alpe d'Huez. With childcare.
