I'm thinking of getting Sky+ HD and am wondering....

Can I Fast Forward through the Ads on recorded programs?

Are Five, ITV2,3,4 only available as extra channels and not on the Guide?

Can I use the Sky+HD box to record these channels?

If I cancel my subscription in the future can I still use the box to record programs?

    Thanks in advance, Paul

Not only can you not use it to record in the future, but anything that required a subscription will not be viewable after you cancel the subscription. So if you had recorded Movies from Sky Premier for instance, and then got rid of the movies, any movies still on the Box will no longer be viewable.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys.

Being able to skip through the Ads is essential so at least I would have that.

I would go for a "Free" combo box except I watch a lot of stuff on Eurosport and AFAIK that's only available from NTL or Sky on Subscription.

Eurosport is in the "News and Events pack" afaik. The HD Channels you get depend on your subscription e.g. if you don't have the Sky Sports pack, you won't get Sky Sports HD

Sorry for the repost but it kinda got lost within the other thread so posting again here....

I'm a Sky customer and am gonna subscribe to Sky HD+ and take Sky up on their offer of the Free HD+ box for existing customers (standard installation €60). I have, however a few questions that perhaps people could answer,

    • My dish, lnb and wiring is about 5/6 years old should I get it replaced under the terms of the installation, its working perfectly and showing little sign of rust, wear and tear etc.
    • Could the installer be a little awkward over this, insisting that my set-up is fine so less work for him if I do want a new dish, cables etc.
    • Would it be best to ring Sky to organise installation or contact my local guy?
    • Are the Amstrad DRX890 Sky+HD PVR5 Digiboxes (500GB) available in Ireland yet?
    • Can I specifically ask for this box?
    Cheers for any info guys.

If there's no need to replace the existing dish and wiring, then there's no need to replace it for the sake of it.

I think you're best to ring a local installer, quicker response time and reliable estimate of when job will be done.

Don't know about the Amstrad boxes you refer to, and you can't specifically ask for one box or another. However you could ask the installer which ones he has and you might be in luck. I would always go for a Pace box if I had a choice.

These are the span new, higher capacity 500gb standard SKY HD+ PVR5 boxes only released in the last fortnight. The older 160gb models are finished, as are Pace as a whole for a while at least as their contract has not been renewed so the only manufacturers are now Amstrad (owned by SKY) and Samsung.

One other question springs to mind......

If I get Sky but don't pay the €15 a month for HD they are now giving people the Sky+HD box anyway!

So will I be able to get the "free" HD channels like BBC HD and ITV1 HD even though I'm not paying the Sky HD Sub?

Hope you dont mind me putting this question in here.

I've ordered SkY HD and have a question about sound.

Do the Sky movies HD and Sky HD channels broadcast in 5.1?

Might be time to dust off the home cinema system which has not been used in some time!

I'm pretty sure all HD programmes are broadcast in 5.1.
