Question: Apply Direct vs Recruiter.

    Hi all,

I've applied for a job that suits my skill set perfectly via a recruitment agency. I feel that the recruiter that sent on my CV didn't really understand a lot of my experience that i mentioned to her. The postion is advertised on the employers website also so i'm considering applying directly myself. How is receiving 2 CV's from the same person typically viewed by an employer, good bad or indifferent?

    Thanks in advance.
    SD

If you honestly feel that you are a good match for the job and the recruiter (as they often do) failed to consider you properly, then by all means apply directly to the company.

The problem you have is that most recruiters will have a contract with the company in question. This contract will have a clause whereby if the agency sends on a CV to the company and the company hires that person for that job or any other job within the company, within one year (or six months, depending on their agreement), then the company has to pay the recruiter the agency fee on that person.

If the employer has actually received your CV and rejected it, sending it again probably won't get you anywhere unless you know that the recruiter altered your CV for the worse.

Thanks for the reply Seamus, it's much appreciated.

The recruiter has already passed my CV to the company, it's only been a few days so i'm not expecting to hear anything just yet. All my skills are already listed on my CV and i'm sure it wasn't altered. I was just wondering if I would have an advantage by applying to the comany directly with my own cover letter highlighting my suitability which would no doubt be more comprehensive than the details the recruiter took from me. If anyone has any similar experiences please let me know how u went about it.

    Thanks guys.

My mate did this for a job in Google. She now has the job. With the volume of applications they will be getting these days, it's likely to go unnoticed. I don't think it will reflect bad in any way even if it is.

You cant be sure of this since most agencies just enter your details into a database and print out a form from those.
they also alter them to match the job spec if required.
You would be amazed at the difference between what a candidate submits to an agency and what they send on to the client.
