Hi all, I am in Final year college, have exams, midterms, and continuous assessment along with an 18,000 word thesis!!!

I am constantly WRECKED, as in feel like I have been hit by a bus sometimes!!! My diet is okish (My Food Diary), but I am just wondering if there is any particular food(s) that is / are good for energy??

    Supplement wise I can't take B12!!! I take B6, Vit C, Evening Primorse Oil!!

I have been to Dr so please no medical advice, its just stress and overworking and it can't stop until May!!! I am trying to walk more but this is a bad week due to Thesis Presentation but back to normal next week!!

    Thanks

Your diet doesn't look bad, nothing is jumping out at me as causing an energy drain.

I would make sure you are taking a good multi-vitamin, some fish oil, and maybe some extra vitamin C.

I suspect that lack of sleep may be a factor. I know, easy to say, but you probably don't have the time to go to bed for a couple of extra hours every night.

In the short term, adaptogens like Rholiala or Ginseng might be helpful.

I was taking Rhodolia? Didn't find it good?!?! Rholiala - not sure what that is!! I will take the ginseng again!!

I take 1000mg of Vit C and forget to take the fish oils but need to remember them!!! I sleep but I know for a fact I say stats and stuff in my sleep and I dream about my thesis - so not proper sleep!!

Thanks, I can sleep in June but not much good if I fail my exmas :( Will try get more regular sleeping pattern!

Would a walk before I go to bed help??

Thanks for the advice :) and good to know my diet isn't too bad!

I think I spelled it wrong!

Yes, a walk would help a lot. In fact, any chance you get out and walk. Apart from anything else, the motion of walking (or cycling) seems to help your brain work a little more creatively.

Oh cool thanks, didn't find it did much at all, will try ginseng!!

Can't cycle - bike was stolen AGAIN :( I can walk, going to aim for morning and just before bed!!! Acutally love walking now and do it on a track and find it very realxing :D

I find egg yolks fantastic for energy, get the omega 3 ones, they are the lowest in omega 6.

Two egg hard boiled yolks in the morning and you'll definitely notice an energy boost.

I was thinking that today, couldnt stomach them but if i whipped them added spinach, onions and other veg and baked them and ate like a muffin would that work?? They would be cold as I always eat breakfast about an hour after I am up!!!

That's what I have for breakfast most mornings, it's the only way I can sneak spinach into my diet!

That sounds lovely, could we have a few more details on how you'd go about it please?

Temple Grandin, I juice lots of baby leaf spinach with some carrot, apples and pears, lovely and seriously healthy tasting/looking

try looking up low gi foods on the net, these are slow releasing foods that sustain you for longer instead of pumping you up followed by a subsequent crash in energy, sleep, supplements and learning to cope with stress sound like a big part of it as well.

Egg muffins are so easy to make, I'm a rubbish cook so if I can make them anyone can.

You just beat some eggs, add a dollop of cream if low carbing, nothing if calorie counting or you have an allergy to dairy like pembily, chuck in your filling, my favourite is smoked salmon, chive and spinach, but anything you have hanging around the kitchen is good.

Pour mixture into a silicone muffin tray, or a regular muffin tray greased well. Bake at 200C for 12 mins exactly, any more and they burn. Leave to settle for 5 mins and then turn out. They freeze well so you can make a big batch and nuke in a microwave as needed.

    Other tasty combo's include:

    Feta cheese and red onion
    Pancetta and chives
    Sundried tomato and onion

Should I not eat the white?? Also any particular brand that is high in omega 3, I tend to buy freerange organic if my lil cousins hens are not laying!!

I would tend to eat lowish GI / GL foods, not strictly but I know the foods that give me an energy crash (potatoes)!!! Coping stress is an ongoing thing, I am trying!!!

You can eat the white if you want, it's surplus to requirements though, all the good stuff is in the yolk, I don't really like the taste of egg white unless mixed up with yolk so that's just personal preference!

The only omega 3 one's I've seen in dunnes are called super-omega or something, it will say it on the box, usually in large letters. Free-range organic are actually not as good, because the hens are often fed only organic grain which is not the natural diet of a hen, which disturbs the omega 6/3 balance of the yolk.

Do try the muffins, I can also never eat breakfast after getting up. Used to zap one in the microwave at about 10am and drive everyone in the office mad hungry from the lovely smells!

I could use the egg whites to make Eileen G's Chocolate Mousse (copyright) :)

Hello, sorry if I'm interupting, but I've seen a lot of people posting around here about these muffins and I really want to try them. Just wondering if they actually rise up like a muffin?

If you put in the cream then they rise up when out of the oven, but they quickly sink back down when cooling. Doesn't affect the taste though!

Khrystana said they were also crustless quiches but healthier :D

I make some high protein and fiber muffins.

    1 egg
    1 tbs psyllium husks
2 tbs soy or other fine milled bran
1 tbs soy protein powder or cocoa powder (lower protein version)
    1/2 tsp baking powder
    Sweetener to taste
    3 tbs cold water

Mix to a wet batter, sort of creamy texture.
Divide into about four muffin molds,
Bake in preheated 200C oven for about 14-15 minutes.

Which cream do you use? I ask as I'm currently attempting the paleo diet and you seem like the guy to ask!

Any whipping cream really (not the stuff in the can or the pre-whipped stuff), I choose double cream because I like the look on peoples faces when they see me do a shot of it and only Irish dairy just because it's guaranteed grass fed and patriotic! Glenisk do organic cream but I have no idea if it's any better.
