Tightbore Pistol Barrels

Worth putting in a tightbore of the same length in a pistol? It just doesn't seem that it'd make much of a difference to be worth it, but at the same time...it is possible to make all the difference.

On the same note...Vanaras make cheap tightbores...would you be better off buying them, cutting 'em to size and modifying them to fit? The cost would go down, but again I'm wondering about the effect...would it be as good, or even would it improve from the stock barrel?

I just came across the tighbore for a Socom Gear MEU, and so the question came to mind.

Yeah they deco make a difference over most standard barrels., it's worth noti g that pistol hops are different from aeg ones so the notching on the end for the hop is completely different., just something to think about if your gonna make your own.,:)

Tightbores in pistols have great effect.... Not to start this bs again, but I've got TK twists in nearly all of my sidearms, (TM, KSC, Maruzen, and Tercell brands) and the performance improvement is extreme... TK are awesome in sidearms... even better than in the rifles, this is what they were originally designed for... short pistol barrels. :)

Wgc, Uncompany, redwolf and ehobby are your friends :)

    Cheers for the answers:)

@Gerrowadat: That was exactly the barrel (and pistol I was going to put it in) that I was looking at.

it would be the hammer spring and 150% recoil spring. Guarder make one set (I have it too)

In short, the answer is yes. I too have put a tightbore in my SOCOM MEU, it's a madbull 6.03mm black python. She now shoots steadily at around 300fps. Another thing you may wish to consider is the flying valve. I am not sure is there one for the SOCOM, but for my KSC Glock 19, new barrel, new flying valve, together with high output valve on the mags, she's clocking at 325fps and extremely accurate. Hope this helps.

    You won't regret it.

I have the guarder spring set FK mentions.

Socom gear are WE 1911 for informations sake... the differences are cosmetic only. As far as I am aware, they take TM valves.

You can dremel out a bi of your own valve to make it a "high flow". its pretty handy to do too.

Does work, but I wouldn't recomend it for beginers or those inexperienced with a, precision drilling metal, b, anyone inexperienced taking down and working on Gbbs, frankly... works for the experienced, and knowlagable, or those willing to risk it. Sort of iffy if they arent...

ya make it sound like brain surgery, its a simple matter of unscrewing the valve, that bit is easy. then you just cut away 2 pieces of metal. on a scale of easy to hard id say its very well in the lower end.

@FK: As far as I know the changes are not purely cosmetic. I own both WE and SG version (picked up a cheap WE for parts). There a few differences that seem to help, but I'm sure you know better. I know SG rebrand WE, but as far as I know they upgrade 'em to a slightly higher standard

@Gerrowadat: I think you've managed to sell it to me:P

I bought a Madbull black python tightbore barrel for my G17, just for sh!ts and giggles really, but also to see if they gave any sort of improvement over the stock barrel. And yeah it makes a noticeable difference alright.
