Anyone got any '3D' glasses they don't want?

    Hey all.

Just thought I'd throw up a post here to see if anyone by any chance has seen Avatar or the likes in 3D and happens to have any of the 3D glasses that they don't want?

There's a youth group locally that have been bringing the kids and people on courses related to them to films in the cinema lately, currently the latest trend for them being Avatar.

Apparently, they only get X amount of Govt. funding and the cost of the glasses (which gets added on to the ticked price, as you all know) doesn't get covered. The first few times they went up they got the glasses (at a discounted price, I'm sure) but on the way back from the cinema they only get about half the glasses back off people (people either want to hold onto them or take them off after the film and walk out without them).

They want to do it more often in future, and with so many 3D movies on the horizon, it's gonna start costing them a few €€ each time due to the glasses cost and them going missing so often.

So with that in mind, I was just wondering if anyone would like to give any spare pairs they have away? I know it'd probably cost a euro or two to post them away, and personally, if i went to the film myself and paid for the glasses, I'd be keeping them, so I'm not really expecting much from this thread at all, but I quite like all of the people involved with this as they're pretty nice, so I just thought it'd do no harm to throw something up here. At least I asked. Can't do any harm.

(Also; just to note, the group are called "Drogheda Youth Development" and I'm not really directly involved with them at all. I'm on a FAS course that's focusing on movies, and we paired up with one of their groups to head up to Dublin to see Avatar, which they paid for, so I felt the least I could do was ask).

Sorry if this thread is a bit iffy or anything, and as I say, I'm not really expecting anyone to give their glasses away, but I just thought there may be a few people out there with a pair or two around the house that they know they won't use, or will lose before they go to see another 3D film, and wouldn't mind giving them away. And as I said earlier, i know it'd cost a euro or two to send them, so it's got everything working against it here, but what the hell. As said; at least I can say i asked.

Oh, and by the way, I recommend Avatar, great film. Wasn't expecting to be into it, but was surprised.

    Anyway, take it easy guys.

You get charged extra for 3D?

In Belfast at the Movie House Cinemas you dont pay extra, you just have to give the glasses back after the show and the odyssey give you the glasses for free.

Its a joke paying extra for 3D

Why?the equipment to show a 3D movie costs a fortune, as does shooting the movie that way, the revenue has to be made back somehow

If that was the case then every cinema would charge extra for 3D, but they don't. Keeping up to date with the latest equipment should be a necessity for every cinema, which should include 3D

    Just my opinion

3D tickets do cost a bit extra. But there's an extra charge for the glasses too I think.

UCI in Blanch didn't charge anything for the glasses when I went there two nights ago.

Cineworld on Parnell street charged extra though.

It seems to be up to the cinema's themselves to choose if they want to charge extra.

Storm in Limerick were charging extra for Avatar in 3D whether you needed glasses or not so I took a pair every time. They're not getting money for nothing off me.

    Hey guys,

I'm not exactly sure of the ins-and-outs of the way it's organised. I just know that they were charged extra for the glasses, and they can obviously get this fee waived if they bring their own, otherwise I can't imagine why they'd want them back in the first place. The organisers did seem pretty disheartened to see so many of the glasses go missing though, so I felt a bit bad.

Like i say I wasn't expecting anything from this thread, but just felt like sticking it up anyway, just incase.

For anyone who requested a PM, I'll PM you now with my address and thanks a lot. To anyone who even bothered to read the thread, cheers also.
