Just wondering, because I certainly haven't. This was used as the answer to a playtv quiz tonight as an irish name with the letter C in it. Vote please!

Have you heard of this name? 10 votes

Dechtire was the sister of Conchobar Mac Neasa of Uladh in the Táin Bó Cuailgne, in some accounts she is claimed to also be the mother of Cúchulainn.

    Dechtire!!!

Of course alleged mother of Cuchulain and married to on of the Red branch Knights.

From the old Erse -deich= ten and tír = land or country.

Apparently she held sway over 10 baronys in the Leitrim Sligo region, and by all accounts was partial to a bit of 'strange knob' as it would appear she was visited on her wedding night by Luagha MacCroccapaill, who it was understood was extremely 'well hung' in fact his name suggests hung like a horse.

Luagha's father Orcas Maccroccapaill apparently was famous for deflowering the daughters of rival chiefs using a technique known as a 'Sligo Plunge' where the the unsuspecting maiden was taken from the rear and skewered on a rampant length of man meat.

Strangely enough there was very little complaint from the daughters although their fathers were from then on mortal enemies.

This led to numerous skirmished in the Partry mountain region and legend has it that when Orcas was captured the maidens demanded his cock be preserved so they could compare with future suitors.

Who said Irish history was dull???

Mods move this to History if this not the right place

A retarded TV show coming up with obscure answers to a question to avoid giving prize money?
Odds are even if you rang up straight away with the right answer they'd just tell you you're wrong and move down to the second name on the list until they stalled enough.
