    Hi,

I'm not sure of the practicalities of this, but am looking for a classic sports car for a wedding in May, with or without a driver. The wedding is in Meath.

Ideally we would love to have a Figaro or MG or similar. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

I wouldn't exactly class a Nissan Figaro as a classic as they were made from 1991. There is a company here that based out your way that seems to have a good selection of exotic and classic cars.

The danger of getting someone "unofficial" to drive or to lend you a car for the day is not having the adequate insurance cover as most classic insurance policies will not cover for hire or reward.

Unless they are old photos, only 2 of Cupid's cars are displaying a limousine licence as required by the Taxi Regulator. And UK-reg cars definitely can't be legally hired out. Wedding cars are just like taxis and hackneys.

Worth a look for something different: http://www.heritagesportscars.com/
Perfect for you, based in Meath: http://www.cadillacweddings.ie/index.html
Has some older stuff too but not sure if they're PSV'd

Heritage aren't squeaky clean either. Their Riley Pathfinder reg 55LK22 was doing a wedding in Fermoy a few weeks ago without a licence, NCT, or tax. And if it doesn't have a limousine licence, it isn't insured for wedding hire. Call the Enforcement section of the Taxi Regulator if you need clarification.

Cadillac Weddings is totally legit anyhow. I seem to remember from previous threads that you have a bit of interest in this topic Morris?

I've retired from the wedding car business but you would not believe the amount of cowboys in the business. Listening to Philip Boucher Hayes on Drivetime this evening, he was going on about unlicensed taxi drivers. Nobody ever mentions the unlicensed and uninsured wedding cars. There have been several court cases in recent times for wedding car operators though they never make the headlines.

getting married in october and we decided that instead of some fella driving us to and from the church we are going to rent a nice car and keep it for a couple of days and return it to the airport drop off when we are leaving to go on our hooney moon.. the onnly problem there seems to be a lack of car rental places that actually do "nice" cars for hire..they all seem to be nissan toyota's etc etc all the standard rental car's.. we were thinking of a range rover nice bmw or merc.. does any one know any site that offers this service ..not that its a money saving tip but at least i feel im getting something out of it having to drive a nice car!!

A lot of couples are doing similar things like going to Hertz/Avis etc and renting something for the day. From threads on the likes of weddingsonline.ie, apparently you may specify a BMW 5-series but on the day you get an Audi A6 as they reserve the right to offer a particular class of car as distinct to an actual car. What I have seen lately is that certain main dealers offer you a car for the day so that way you stand a better chance of getting the car you want.

    Hope it helps.

thanks for that ill look into it alright..im just more into the modern cars than vintage as lovely as they are i suppose its all taste and i want to drive it also....ill keep on looking any way.. i seem to be comming across places like hertz etx that will do 5 series bmw and a c class merc prices vary but i think my dreams of rolling up to the church in a lambo are way over the horizon

Driving yourself, assuming you're the groom, on the day of the wedding is limiting yourself in ways you may not have thought through. Hopping into a Lambo or something that you're not used to after a preparatory glass of champers that morning is asking for trouble.

Also, will the bride be able to get in and out of a low sportscar without pulling a Britney?
