I rang them yesterday evening as I was checking out their packages and deals. The sports pack or Fibre extreme is working out at €95 which includes HD and broadband, calls and sports etc.

I am paying then €92 and not getting half of what's on offer to the new customers.

When I rang them they told me it would cost me €121 to get everythign that's on offer to new customers!!!!!

Surely there is something wrong with that!

I was raging on the phone over it:mad::mad:. What's the best way to go about this am I stuck paying more than I have to? Should I keep ringing looking to be upgraded???

If you feel you are paying too much then you should cancel.

It is no different with Sky, Banks, insurance companies etc etc

Not saying it is right but the only way round it to cancel and shift the business elsewhere - there is always a slim hope they will make you a decent offer to remain.

I rang them again :D I asked to get through to the customer retention department. Told them I was considering leaving to go back to Sky and they gave me the package. Seems the only way to get through to them. Suppose the sales team are restricted in what they can activate for you. Thanks for the advice anyway :D

.. never had quite the same situation with UPC but I did have reason to 'pleasantly' work my way up the 'let me speak to your manager' scenario with them recently and they eventually agreed to a free upgrade on my own television package. I actually found them quite OK to reason with once I got beyond the unfortunate front line spear carrier.

Also, I did have a situation with my mobile phone operator last year where they wanted to throw a saddle over me regarding an upgrade so I just cancelled the contract, temporarily moved the number elsewhere and then after a few months went back as a new customer to the first provider. They welcomed me back with open arms and did everything but throw in a free shoe-shine.

That's what we need to do, over the Celtic Tiger we settled for the piss being taken out of us. It's a different era now so we need to let them know that we are not accepting being ripped off anymore. If only more people thought like that and voted with their feet, we would be in a much better position.

It looks like peoples attitudes are changing,. There was an article in the Irish times last week about an increase in the amount of Irish people openly complaining about not receiving an adequate service and not accepting it. Rightly so:)

well it was a major bee on my bonnet the whole celtic tiger idea being ripped off by folks who thought they they'd invented the concept of doing business, freakin' Del boys.

... and don't get me started on the devil shopkeepers who almost doubled the price of a bar of Dairy Milk the day we changed over to the euro, nearly broke my heart :D

Just a query :) Thought you were an employee with a gripe towards customers like me :D I get your point now though. Problem is the only alternative is Sky and they are more expensive. I got sorted anyway:D

I'm sure they would charge a cancellation fee and then prob charge a connection fee. I got it sorted anyway, I rang their customer retention department and they connected me straight away. They were actually ok about it.

So did they give you extra channels for the same price?

So did they give you extra channels for the same price?

    Initially I had:
    Phone (local and national calls)
    Broadband
    Value digi pack
    Disney channel
    Recording box (Not HD)
    2nd point and digibox

    That was costing me €92

This is what I got from them. It's €95 & €5 for the additional room.

Im paying €42 a month for broadband and im only getting between 15 - 19mb download speeds when I tested it.

If I call them up and ask them to upgrade it should be no problem? Or are they going to start saying I have to pay extra to get it connected?

Will I just tell them im thinking of leaving if they don't do it for free like you did Bhoy?

What do you mean? Do you just have broadband? €42 is for the 20 Mb broadband. So you are almost getting the full speed. They are upgrading packages though and your 20 MB will become 30 Mb eventually. Check the Broadband forum to see how you can get upgraded early. However there are some teething problems with the upgrades with many people not getting the full speed yet.

Don't know Daz but I just said I wasn't happy and considering going to sky as it is better value and asked did they have a customer retention department. They just forwarded me to them and had no bother from there on

UNfamiliarity with the board on my part I suppose, It's related to UPC Waterford. Is there another section dedicated to these subjects???

There's a broadband forum here. You can find it under Tech > Nets & Comms > Broadband. I see a couple of threads there about UPC so you might want to read through it.

Finding your way around boards can be take a while so don't worry. I would move the thread across for you but you're already sorted so there's no need. :)

As this is more of a General UPC post, I am moving it to the Cable TV section, as has already been stated, there are numerous threads about UPC in the Broadband section, so any questions or criticism related to their BB service, please post them in the Broadband forum., and keep this thread for general UPC service issues

Unless I'm mistaken(apologies if I am), you will be charged an extra €30 p.m. in two months time. Sky Sports is only free for two months, after that, you will be charged.

So your €95 now will be €125 come april.

i dont think so ,i could be wrong too but under where it says 2 months free it says you will be charged 70 for first 2 months i not sure if existing customers will get free 2 months , i might ring to avail of same offer .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 412 ✭✭An Tarbh

it's probably only for new customers, we upgraded our pack as well but I'm not expecting to get Sky Sports free for 2 months, they previously told me that I'd already had the benefits of being a new customer and wouldn't be eligible for any new customer offers.

Anyway there's no way you'd be paying €125 come April, it'll be €95 or €100 in the case above.

It says on the package that is only available to new customers at a rate of €70 for the first 2 months and 95 there after. Well hopefully that's right anyway:eek:

I think it is fundamentally morally wrong for a new customer to be getting better value than a customer who might have being paying that shower for years.
There is very little customer loyalty shown to customers within the walls of UPC.
Like I said before its not surprising that thousands of people availed of those dodgy boxes in the last couple of years. Most of them were probably existing customers whose neighbours were paying half the subscription fees because they were new customers.

With contention, you're unlikely to ever get 30Mbps. Every ISP advertises the bandwidth, but rarely mention how many customers you'll be sharing with. Chances are, you'll be one of up to 24 users sharing that 30Mbps. ("Up to", because at unsocial hours, you might indeed be the only one online, at others, everyone might be) Hence you'd probably get very different speeds if you test at 3am midweek, or 8pm on a Friday evening.

As for the second, try using the OpenDNS servers in your DNS settings. (i.e. enter 208.67.222.222 for the DNS server in your network settings on your PC). That might help, or at least rule out a cause of a slow network.

Crikey they are saints compared to Sky. I have been with Sky since 1995 and would I get a Special Offer? Lke hell I would

Got a call from Chorus NTL today asking me do I want to upgrade from the basic analogue package to Digital for €21 a month, €5 extra per month per extra room and €40 installation fee. I must go to payment by direct debit. This will give me 93 channels, (sounds like Value pack as per UPC website). In addition €55 per month to switch phone and broadband from Eircom.

If I get digital TV in one room can I stick with analogue in the other, and somehow get the digital signal through.

A bit wary of switching phone and broadband (if it ain't broke don't fix it). Any thoughts?

yeah we had digital in one room and analogue in the other room, but eventually got the multiroom as BBC2 analogue is a woeful signal.

I can understand why people don't want to change their phone and broadband but we're now saving at least €350 per year, which isn't to be sneezed at.

Yes, you can still use the analogue in other rooms. You could also look at a video sender, multiroom would be better.

I never understand this attitude. UPC broadband is far better than Eircom's and their phone service is much cheaper. If you're being ripped off, why put up with it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,245 ✭✭✭Fat_Fingers

you should investigate first about their Broadband in your area because there are serious problems with UPC broadband affecting lots of customers.

    See
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055764097&page=86

My personal experience with their broadband is a bit of a mixed bag. I have 15Mb BB from UPC and i'm getting about 12 - 10Mb in the mornings, then come 6PM its down to 5-4Mb and it goes down to as bad as 1Mb. Weekends are the worse.
Sometimes their network is soo bad that you cant even make a phonecall.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,234 ✭✭✭Fresh Pots

If it is true that the new customer prices will revert to the existing customer prices after a year, should that not be written somewhere on their site. I fail to see it written anywhere. How are companies able to get away with this type of lark.
