Hi, I'm looking for advice on purchasing a watch. I'm a bit of a techno-phob, so I need something that's pretty easy to use. So if anyone could offer some help, on brands etc, I'd appreciate it. Budget is a bit tight, so something in/around €100 would be my limit - is that too little?

Sorry if this has been asked a milion times already :o

Hi rubyk, I bought a timex running watch in Argos for around 30€ and it's perfect. I use it all the time.

If you want something to measure hr, speed, distance etc then a garmin forerunner 405 is your only man. You will need a computer with Internet to get the moat out of it though and it will require you to revise your budget upwards to approx €200. have one of these aswell - awesome

    Thanks for that OI!

I must have a look in Argos, never thought of it tbh.

Ruby online is the only place to buy Garmin. Recently bought a 305 with the HRM for €160. I have to say it really is excellent. If you are not interested in the HRM you should be able to get one for approx €100

I use this one that I bought in Argos:

    http://www.argos.ie/static/Product/partNumber/0704801/Trail/searchtext>HEART+RATE.htm

Has a stop watch, a HRM and an average HRM function - thats all I need. And the watch is waterproof so I can use the stopwatch function in the pool (haven't tried the chest strap in the pool so dont know about that).

If you're paying €160 for a 305, I'd nearly fork up the extra 25 euro for a 405 (without HRM), and pick up the HRM some other time, if you think you need it.

I got mine on Amazon. There was free shipping. Watches are actually shipped from Dublin so got mine next day.

If you have an iPod (and are already setup with itunes), you could look at the Nike+ addon kit for it. I used to use it before I got my Garmin and it's not bad. I wouldn't recommend this unless you already have a (compatible) iPod though.
