Apparently, it could cost the State €100m to protect Leeside from flooding in future. But, it seems that this cost would be prohibitive and it seems that we could be left paddling around the city centre for a few more years.

But not to worry, at least we can cycle along the Grand Canal in Dublin on a new €10m cycle path that got the go-ahead today:

Nice to see that we have our priorities right in this country.

Irish Government mantra: As long as Dublin is fine, why should we give a shít????

The study proposes that the ESB would use its dams at Inniscarra and Carrigadrohid in Cork to control the flow of the River Lee to reduce the risk of flooding in the city.

Don't they do that anyway? And it only took 4 years to find it out!!!

In the same report they said that the last flood caused hundreds of millions in damages. Maybe they should ask the insurance companies to pay for the defences, it would be cheaper in the long run rather than going through another round of flood damage claims :)

The point being that if they can find €10m to build 4.6km of cycle lanes how cant they find €100m to build flood defences in Cork.
