Advice on satellite position and cabling options

I'm looking to get a satellite installed to get free-to-air satellite channels and watch it through my Windows Media Center machine with a DVB-S2 tv tuner card.

I'll also have a DVB-T tuner card for receiving DTT signal for RTE & TV3 so will need a DTT antennae also. Can this go right behind the satellite dish or does it need its own space?

I'm in Crumlin and the front of the house faces the general direction of 3 Rock. I know it's a long shot, but if it's possible, I'd prefer to have the dish out of sight at the back of the house. I've included a pic of the front of the house and the positioning and direction of the dishes my two neighbours have installed, which point roughly towards the bottom right of the pic. I've also included a pic of the deck and she which are directly behind the extension on the side of my house, just to see if there's any possibility the dish could be located there. Again, I recognise it's a long shot but just want to get advice before ruling it out.

So the dish will likely end up on the front of the house. I've included a black line on the pic showing the diameter of the neighbours' dishes and how this would mean it would slightly overrun onto my neighbour's side, though I'd say he'll be fine with it. Don't want to put it in the middle of the 2 windows of my house as it'd stick out even more there, though it's gonna be pretty obvious either way.

In the attic there's a connection point where the various RG59 coax cables (or I think for the extension it might've been the next grade up whatever that's called) for running the current NTL broadband signal around the house is positioned. I use NTL cable broadband so am not sure if I can sacrifice those cables to the satellite - what's the generally done-thing there?

I'll want to have the option for at least 2 satellite channels and min 1 DTT channels in the media center pc, plus with option to put standard Freeview box in another couple of rooms. What size LNB and cabling options will I need?

I know it's a lot of questions but I'm just trying to get my head around what the options are so thanks for any advice.

I'll probably go with an installer as I'm very short on free time so am all ears for any recommendations. Thanks.

There is no need for those dishes to be on the front of the house. A stand off bracket and pole can be used to place them at the back. You need a 60cm dish and quad or Octo lnb. I'm afraid your existing rg59 its not much use for satellite. You need either freesat or free to air boxes, freeview is the Uk terrestrial system.

Thanks for that Tony, good to know it's possible to mount the dish out the back.

Will it require new cables to be run to each room? That'd likely be a problem as when we did the renovations recently the cable runs were pretty complicated and tight - doubt pulling the existing cables back up with view to using them to tie a cable to to and pulling it back through would work.

Cable question aside, what rough price would I be looking at for both the static dish and an antenna?

I'd be interested to find out what price it'd be for a motorised dish setup, though to be honest I doubt there's much on those channels over the UK channels that I could justify the extra cost for.

Thanks, but would've thought that most regular users of boards set their profile to not having to look at sigs? I'll give Tony a call to discuss possibilities.

I didn't know that could be done.

In my profile settings I've set an option that hides all signatures - I find most of them just distract from reading a thread so now I don't need to look at them. Just letting you know.

I tried calling the number on your site and have just now sent a mail from your website. I'll be busy till 2pm but hopefully hear from you after that to discuss options.

I also don't see any sigs. I didn't knowingly turn it off anywhere, or at least not recently. I do remember being a bit puzzled when seeing previous references to "Tonys sig" as I couldn't see one.

So looks like Tony's company are maxed out and don't have any installers available to do the job in my area (D12) in February, which is a pity but understandable. If I don't find someone else that I have confidence in that can do it in February, I wouldn't rule out waiting until March.

Either way, if Tony or others have advice on my options (e.g. cabling options, motorised dish etc.), I'd appreciate it. Likewise with suggestions of reputable installers that might have availability in the D12 area. Thanks.

Learn something new (and generally useless) everyday :). I think I turned it off years back before they introduced the rules about max signature size - there were some massive ones back then which put me off and I just got used to the cleaner pages without them I guess.

Yes I have to hold my hand up and say my initial attempt at a sig was way too big.

Just bumping this thread to see if there's anyone else that might be able to offer advice about options or recommenations for an installer.

I checked the sticky listing suppliers and installers but it looks like it hasn't been updated in a long time.

Just bumping this one last time in case anyone has advice on an installer or the suitable setup options available. Thanks.

As this forum isn't exactly over-brimming with recommendations for installers, I just wanted to come back on this thread and let anyone else that comes across it that might be in a similar position to myself that I came across pelisor2000 on this thread in Adverts.ie and he did a top notch job to get me sorted out at a very reasonable price.

Its good you got sorted out Frank. I've seen lots of recommendations for pellisor over time here so seems his work is top notch.
