How do I repair my Sky Cable?

    Hi,

Some guerrier decided to cut my satellite cable, the one that runs directly from the Sky satellite dish into the back of the box.

I rang them and they want €100 just for the callout!

So I said feck that I'd try and repair it myself.

There are five components in a cross
section of a cable. (1) The outer black protective layer, (2) the silver
shielding (3) an inner white plastic
insulator then (4) loose strands of thin copper wire (5) main aerial like copper wire about a millimetre or two thick

I tried just pairing it down so I had the main copper wire sticking out both ends and connecting it with a connector like below but I've had no joy
getting a signal. So it seems the silver shielding which is really fragile and easy to displace and the loose copper wire also, are important or maybe it's the fact that without the inner white plastic covering it is affected by the other components contacting the main wire.

The cable looks pretty much something like this....

Just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to do a simple fix or should I be calling my local tv/sat repair shop etc?

    cheers
