Ken Doherty has got himself back into the provisional top 32 rankings after the recent Welsh Open. He currently lies at 31 and with the China Open and World C'ships left this season he stands a good chance of ragaining a place in the top 32 for next season.Welsh Open winner John Higgins remains number 1 and unless he suffers a disasterous finish to the season he will be the world number for next season. O'Sullivan remains no 2, Neil Robertson is no 3 and runner up last week Ali Carter moves to a career high of number 4.

Dohertys next action sees him this week try and qualify for the China Open where if he wins his first qualifying match will play Graeme Dott who defeated him in the final qualifying round for the Welsh Open two weeks ago. After that is the final pro challenge event and then the all important final qualifying rounds take place for the world c'ships.

In other news it looks like Barry Hearn is going to jump on board and promote next years Ken Doherty organised world six red event in Killarney, hopefully that may help pave the way for a ranking event to return to Ireland?:)

Great news for Ken, delighted for him.

Im not overly gone on the 6 red idea...why bother playing on full size tables at that rate? I appreciate it makes for quick fire games, easier programme slots etc...but in my opinion its at the expense of the game.

Speaking of Hearn, he did a fantastic job with the Masters with the intro music, huge crowds etc...what the hell happened for the Welsh? No intro music, sponsorship & advertising decals were like something lifed out of the 70's, he SERIOUSLY needs to get the established pundit team on board with ranking events...with all due respect to the lads, the Eurosport commentating was more exciting - and I dont say that lightly! The anchor came across ignorant & falsly interested, ALL ranking events need to be on the red button, if not certainly full coverage from the quaters onwards...

No joy today for Ken, after beating Dave Gilbert 5-0 yesterday, he lost his final qualifying match 5-2 to 2006 world champion Graeme Dott. With only the world championship left to gain ranking point he may have to qualify for Sheffield to guarantee a top 32 place next season.
