Well the old wan has decided she wants to get a new car and wants another VW.

We have had Jetta/Vento/Bora since '83 so there will be no changing her mind.

Two things I would like to know.

Has anyone any considerable experience with the new 1.6 engine. I would not be too happy with the idea of the same amount of power being squeezed out of a 1.6 as was previously gotten from the previously larger engine. Any bad reports on these so far?

The other thing I would like to know. The Jetta is currently based on the MK5 Golf, will there be a version on the MK6 and if yes, when?

    Thanks in advance.

PS, can the ''LOL..VW :pac:'' please behave

Bought a new golf comfortline 1.6 tdi 105 bhp. I think the power is fine but i have only ever has 1.4 petrols prior to this. The mpg is wonderful !!!!!

You'd probably get a Superb for Jetta money? they fit way more bales in the boot.

Afaik there is a new Jetta on the way this summer. I wouldn't bother with the current Jetta to be honest as like the Bora and Vento before it they will suffer from heavy depreciation once the new model arrives and they are pretty close in price to the Passat.

BTW 1.6 TDi is also available in the Passat but that is due a major facelift pretty soon too.

She went for an Octavia in July of 08 and wasn't that happy with it. She is of the opinion the build quality was better in the VW.

The superb is too big for her, all the kids have left the nest at this stage.

She was told that the Jetta was only 400 more than a mk6 Golf. Would there still be any unregistered 1.9/2.0 Jettas in the country?

The old lady rang about that car.

Salesman told her this morning that he had a couple of calls about it but that the price was wrong on the website.

He said he would call her back after he went to mass. He didn't.

Any wonder the motor industry is in the schit

The new 1.6 is sound, nothing to worry about, other manufacturers have been getting similar power from similar sized engines for years. It's far more refined than the old 1.9 also. Tell her go for it. Unless she has lead in her welly and was always complaining about the narrow powerband in the old 1.9 and the overall lack of grunt, then she won't need the 2.0 140.

There is a new Jetta in the pipeline, vw have shown a jetta coupe which looks pretty cool.
I can't put a picture here, but check out www.vwvortex.com and click on the picture of the jetta coupe, shows what the saloon should look like.

I wouldnt worry about the 1.6 getting more power then the 1.9's.
The techology has moved on and its to be expected that the latest generation of TDI to have more power. And it is a new generation engine, its not a smaller engine with the same techology as the larger engine.

OP did you look at the Seat Exeo? Granted it is based on the old Audi A4 but the Jetta is hardly new these days either. I'd still have it over the Jetta:

Spec is decent on them and it comes with the 2.0 CR TDi which would have more torque than the 1.6 TDi in the Jetta.
