    Hi,

I worked on the last census, it's hard work for the pay you get. I applied through the census website.

I worked on the 2002 Census and it is hard work. Quite often you have to go back to households numerous times as:-

    a) you go in the evening when you expect people to be home from work and then they won't open the door when the soaps are on
    b) they won't fill in the form because there's no money in it for them unlike Headage payments etc.
    c) they've filled the form in with pencil or something, despite your instructions not to!
    d) they've told you to eff off and leave them alone...I found women in my area to be far ruder than the men!

In rural areas there is a lot of wear and tear on your car (as it's always the old farmer who lives in the complete back of beyond who's never at home) and you need to be pretty good at reading a map because you'd be amazed at where some people live and you are paid per household so you need to find as many households as you possibly can.

I also know of one ennumerator who distributed/collected a lot of their forms in the local pub!

    Hope I haven't put you off! :D

I'd say you work hard for every cent! Try www.cso.ie - they also advertise them in the paper when the time comes.
