    Hi All,

just wondering if anyone has had Dessy bridesmaid dresses for their wedding? I am bridesmaid for my sister, wedding not til August 2011 but she has picked out dessy dresses for the 4 bridesmaids.

She lives in England (I was over last weekend and tried dress on) but all 4 of us are in Ireland so makes sense to get them here. I have found three shops in Galway that do Dessy which is fine but just wondering if anyone has had Dessy for their wedding? I am going to some of these shops this evening.

The colour she picked out in the shop is Sugarplum but on the website it looks a completly different colour than was in the shop. Anyone got experience of these dresses/colours?

    thanks. :D

I'm not having BM's but Dessy dresses seem to the the most popular for BM's.
If you don't know about it already weddings on line is a forum for all things bridal and wedding. It's not a very objective forum but you'll find lots of info on there about BM dresses.

I wore a Dessy dress when I was bm - we got them in Mozarina in Claregalway. They have gorgeous dresses and really reasonable. Fab dresses and really well cut and flattering. The colours on the website are totally different to real life but just ask for a colour swatch card in the store and you'll be able to see the colours.

Is anyone having trouble with awkward bridesmaids? Im just having the one and everyone has said it will be easier with one. No such luck, i have had her in gorgeous dresses and its either too low cut ( and we are talking strappless here so they cant be low cut ) or she doesnt like the material or the feel of it! My wedding is in september so i need to get it sorted very soon, i think at this stage she thinks she will be wearing the dress again for one of her work do's and shes thinking like that! Obviously she will be keeping the dress.

Gosh my wedding is in April and Im still not sorted! Im also only having 1 bridesmaid and its proving difficult to get her a dress as she just doesnt seem interested. She decided before we even went looking that only certain types of dress will suit here and therefore wouldnt even try on anything wasnt a v shaped neckline. I have told her I dont mind what colour, shape, style, price dress she wants but we still are not sorted at this point. Im not really worried though as there are still 9 weeks left.

    Sorry for hijacking the tread

Oh my god you poor thing, i was the same i was so open to any colour or style. She did like one dress but then changed her mind, she says she wants to be happy with what shes wearing otherwise she wont look happy in the photographs. My husband to be is going mad and thinks i should tell her that she must not want to be my bridesmaid and pick one of my other friends that we will fall out over this otherwise! You should try some of the sample sales around. I have told her now she's wearing a berry colour, im bringing my mam to a bridal shop in a few weeks and my bridesmaid is coming with us so my Mam will back me up on the dress.

Do you know if she had to pay customs coming into Ireland?

Hi, I am looking into buying my Dessy bridesmaids dresses from America, Can anyone recommend a good site to do this from???

I've heard gownsales are the best.

But if you do feel like supporting a local business, Ardee bridal are having a sale this weekend - all Dessy dresses 165 euro. I was gonna order mine from gownsales but now I'm gonna do that.

I bought my bridesmaid dresses from gownsales.com last year. Ordered them early June and they arrived mid-August. They were Mori-Lee but gownsales have all types and they're not copies of the dresses but the actual dresses just cheaper cos they're US prices and a cheaper distribution channel.

Yes I would have supported local businesses if they didn't cost €300 per dress here in Ireland and only €100 though gownsales! But there weren't any sales on at the the time i was looking I did have to pay customs on the dresses but I think gownsales even declared that the dresses' value was half what I actually paid on the customs form so it wasn't very much €40 I think.

Just be careful with the sizing and err on the side of caution and get a size up. My girls got theirs altered in Stitch n Sew at the bottom of Gardiner St in Dublin for €25 each. He had to take one in, let one out, and my poor aunt had been on a yo-yo diet and put on weight so he had to use the shawl that came with the dress to give it more room. (By the actual wedding she put on even more weight and the dress lasted the ceremony before the zip busted lol!!)

I would say go for it if you can't get good deals here.

I think it's time to stress how little time is left and if she doesn't find something this time, you're going to have to pick something without her consent :o . I've got 5 bridesmaids... 4 of them are great and will go along with whatever... the 5th is being a right pain in the a**e and doesn't realise that I really don't care. The guests aren't there to look at the bridesmaids although I want them to look lovely they're not really my priority! I'm letting it go for now cos there's not much urgency (wedding next April) but there will come a point when I snap and put her in a pink meringue.

    Hi,

I'm thinking about buying my two Bridesmaid dresses from the US as I think it would be cheaper but I'm worried about how much customs will charge. Has anyone bought dresses from the US and if so how much have they had to pay for customs or have they managed to get away with it?

    Thanks,

If you get hit with a custom/duty bill for clothing from the US it generally works out about 40% of the entire cost (the cost of the clothing + the shipping).

They're obviously trying to charge more than they should, I looked it up in the taric database and for clothing imported from the States it should be 5.3%. If they're charging you more you should get in touch with them and demand a refund.

TillyGirl, would you mind telling me what 3 shops in Galway have Dessy dresses? I'm looking for an After Six style....

We used mozarina bridal claregalway. Also wedding world in Briarhill stock them. Not sure of the third, maybe try dessy website.

    Thanks! I'll try those...

Also, for those who ordered from www.gownsales.com, how did you contact them? there does not appear to be an email on their website as I don't really wanna call the US.

I wouldnt really recommend mozarina and have heard bad things about wedding world!

They actually aren't. What I said is correct. The duty may be 5.3% but you've obviously forgotten that VAT is added on top of that (which will be 23% soon) plus an administration charge which is at least €10, so overall it usually is around 40%.

I found Mozarina to be quite nice and fairly priced (for wedding dresses), weddingworld weren't very appealing over the phone, I cancelled my appointment a while later after I got a not nice vibe on the phone.

Yes, I did actually forget about the VAT! darn...

I got 3 dessy style 2732 in midnight for my bridemaids for the equivilent of approx €130 each (2 of them were for plus size girls so I had to pay extra) on www.houseofbrides.com

I got charged about €100 customs (the dollar v euro rate sucks at the moment which was a disadvantage when it came to customs but a blessing when we honeymooned in the US :p) but it still worked out cheaper than buying them here. They are fabulous dresses and the 3 girls looked stunning.

One word of advice when using www.houseofbrides.com though, is that they took longer than expected. They say 10 - 16 weeks on the website (unless you go for rush delivery) and they were definitely closer to the 16 weeks than the 10 but I know of others who got them sooner!

I am getting married in March and ordered Dessy dresses in August from bridesmaids.com, way cheaper than here. Estimated delivery time was 10-16 weeks and they arrived in 8 weeks! Also got away without paying customs but from research online you can get hit with it up to 2 weeks after delivery. I chose an After Six style and the colour displayed on Dessy website was exactly what it looked like when the dresses arrived if that helps! :D
