    Hi,
Has anybody any experience or opinion on bringing an Irish car to the U.K and registering it there? I'm moving over and need a car for work so was going to bring my 00 VW Bora..Or would it make more sense to sell the Bora here and try pick up a car over there?

    Thanks

if you ever come back, you won't have to pay VRT again, so if you know the car then there's no reason not to bring it.

(unless it's a 1.4 - then buy something over there)

And how do you prove this? Just keep the log book?

TBH I'm also looking at going to the UK, and just to make things easier I'll be bringing the car on the ferry to cart stuff over, and may as well just keep it there for the duration of my stay. I'll only get rid of it if I go with my other option of Holland, because that wouldn't make sense (que bongi driving wrong way round a roundabout)

Sorry to hijack OP's this thread, I'm also thinking or bringing my car over here. If I was to register it with it's KPH only clocks would there be a major problem? I may be here over 6 months so re-register

You need to have MPH on there, that's certainly the case when registering Japanese imports in the UK. some cars are easier than others to convert.

If your only over there for 6 months would your insurance not cover you for a certain amount of days without having to re-register it? My insurance companies allow me 90 days cover while my car is out of the country.

insurance is cheaper in the UK though, as is tax.
