    Hi,
I'm a secondary teacher doing a maternity cover for a VEC school at the moment and I was wondering if anyone knows whether I can expect to get paid for the days the school was closed? No one in work seems to be sure..

You were available for work and are presumably on a non-casual contract so yes, you should get paid.

I know the girls in our school (not VEC) didn't get paid for them. They had been putting the forms into the Social Welfare so as to keep up their stamps (or something like that) and they were signed in as not working for those days by the school secretary so wouldn't get paid by the DOE.

Last year the girls doing maternity did get paid for the snow days we had but we figured it might have been to do with the fact that nationally schools were closed this year.

Maybe VEC will pay you. I hope so as like the rest of us you were available to work.

OP, are you filling in a claim form for the hours you do or are you getting paid in the same way as other staff?

For a maternity leave in a VEC school, you put in claim forms and claim the hours worked. I doubt if these include snowdays.
