How often do you think?

Think about the futility of existence, your mortality, how other people view you, your self-image and other things like this? Is is natural to contemplate these things or do most people just 'live' like a goldfish or any other animal would. I'd love to be like that. I imagine it's heaven :)

    I just don't give a sh*t about anyone but myself:D

The first step to living like a 'goldfish' and hence not over-thinking is probably not to post introspective threads on a forum... :p

It's okay, you don't have to eat it now.
    You're just sleepin'.

Dunno but you'd probably find that the people who should be considering such things are the ones not doing it.

I can't keep count of how often I think, because while I'm trying to count, I keep thinking about what I was just thinking about, so I can count how often I was thinking. So I'm just thinking, I think I can't actual work this out.

I've got a huge cold sore at the minute,so for the next few days im going to be constantly thinking that people are staring at me wondering what the fcuk happened to my lip.
Which kinda covers both the 'self image' and 'how other people view me' part of your question.

I think about that stuff more than may be healthy, probably because I enjoy my own company more than is healthy as well.

But I don't think it holds me back on my life. I mean, I might think a lot about stuff around me but when it comes to my career or practical life like remembering to pay bills or thinking of the consequences of my actions, I'm unfortunately reckless.

Most the time. Yeah, I'd say it's natural

The trick to not thinking all that stuff is to replace all your thoughts with Simpsons, Family guy and American dad quotes- followed by some Father Ted....:D Life is much better since I started doing that!

I'm sorry but why are any of these futile?
I presume you're not suffering from extreme poverty or starvation or anything? Life's for living; not worrying.:)

This is AH - people don't think, they just react automatically and demand the death penalty.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I'm constantly contemplating things - I used to think everyone did, but then I was told than lots of people can go through life without much thinking - ironically these are the people I most want to punch in the face; knackers and spoilt brats...

i think it is totally natural, at least for anyone with at least average intelligence…usually happens to me when i wake up at 4 am or so on a working day and just cannot get back to sleep…knowing i have to get up around 6.30 anyway…that’s when all things negative or in any way worrying, any doubts and fears i might have go through my head…hate when that happens…must be much easier to be a retard and live purely by instinct and in the moment…

I try to think as little as possible. I saves me from confusing myself.

I outsource most of my thinking to cheaper brains in India. Saves me a fortune.

Interesting thread. Most people I know feel the same way i.e. constant self awareness and thinking about the "bigger things" and how they're interacting with the world at any given time etc. And I'm no different. And judging by a lot of people's reaction here, I get the feeling it's something that most people do but don't feel the need to talk about or try to resolve in some way - probably cos they've always been like that and have come to the conclusion it's just the way they are. Or simply cos not everyone has the ability to put it into words. But words are where it starts really, at least for me. All these thoughts are formed in my head using language i.e. if I can't say it then it doesn't exist - at least not in my head/world. That's a new enough personal realisation and has made me seriously question the validity of my thoughts, try it icon7.gif

Our self awareness is a real head f**k, no doubt about it. And that's where the dialogue usually ends. Leaving us with this feeling that we're a little f**ked, and it's a surprisingly acceptable thing for a lot of people. Until they get a few drinks in them and start things like, "jeeezis man...why zit allsof**ckedup?"

I try not to think too much about thing like the after-life because it depresses/scares me. I wish I could coast through life like Peter Griffin, slowing destroying my brain cells with beer. :)

If you want to irreparably destroy your ability to think and want to send yourself slowly insane, read up evolutionary psychology, determinism and other areas of philosophy of the mind and you will start to wake up with a heavy head and a wish you've never thought about this ****!

Then again, whether you end up reading this message and choose to read up on the subjects mentioned, is something which is predetermined.
