Microwaveable popcorn commonly eaten as a snack on a night in with a few drinks and a movie.

    Seldom eaten alone.

    Usually with your partner.

Why therefore is microwavable popcorn sold in 3's - am I missing a really hot night in that the rest of the population must have on a regular basis ?

Why do hot dogs come in packs of 10 but hot dog buns only come in packs of 8?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,547 ✭✭✭Agricola

Yep, afraid so. Popcorn eating is a communal activity so if theres 2 spare packets left unopened that means your life sucks.

Come to think of it, I've only ever eaten popcorn as part of a sexy party for 3.

    You could be onto something.

Same people who would eat a regular popcorn at the cinema

Ever heard of an American Hotdog? No hot-dogs required, just 8 men and 8 buns

They're HUGE though. They're much bigger than a small cinema popcorn.

Suppose there are folk who eat the large one all to themselves in the cinema too. Ugh, I'd be sick!

Maybe that is 1 of the many reasons for obseity in this country. Who knows.
I sometimes buy a pack of a dozen condoms but I don't plan on having an orgy.

DIY popcorn's the best, quickly down any flies that are in the kitchen at the time!

3 packets is alright, i find if you're in a group of like 3 ppl, say playing xbox whatever that once one packet is gone you put another in the microwave straight away.

So then that leaves you one to share with the OH when watching a movie.

    3... its a magic number:D

But a small cinema popcorn is exactly that small :)

I'd say a microwaveable popcorn pack is the size of a medium popcorn in the cinema maybe a fraction bigger but hey maybe I overeat :D

I saw a 6 pack in dunnes yesterday if that's of any help to anyone!!!

I can't remember which brand it was - kelkin I think.

    You are all incorrect.

The first pack is just a test/dummy pack that invariably gets burned due to mistiming caused by your attempt to ensure that you aren't left with half a bag of unpopped kernels mocking you.

True. Although in my case all 3 are test packs. But I can usually salvage enough popped but not burned popcorns from the 3 experiments to make the equivalent of 1 cooked just right packet.

    You have a point !

But I have it sussed - 2 min 40 seconds for first pack
2 min 20 seconds for 2nd pack - microwave must be pre heated or something from first.
Never have had the elusive 3 person night in the popcorn manufacturers must dream of so I've no idea if it needs another time adjustment for the third one. :p

Me too, now I feel slightly ashamed....

But not so much as to stop me putting a bag in the microwave in a few minutes :D

I must admit, I make popcorn perfectly. Hardly any pips left and not burned at all :)

I can imagine the chat up lines in the pub/club though.

I see both of your suggestions, and raise you Father of the Bride (1991)
    [at a supermarket]
George: I'll tell you what I'm doing. I want to buy eight hot dogs and eight hot dog buns to go with them. But no one sells eight hot dog buns. They only sell twelve hot dog buns. So I end up paying for four buns I don't need. So I am removing the superfluous buns. Yeah. And you want to know why? Because some big-shot over at the wiener company got together with some big-shot over at the bun company and decided to rip off the American public. Because they think the American public is a bunch of trusting nit-wits who will pay for everything they don't need rather than make a stink. Well they're not ripping of this nitwit anymore because I'm not paying for one more thing I don't need. George Banks is saying NO!
    Stock Boy: Who's George Banks?
    George: ME!

    popcorn for lovers....

oh the saltiness of it....just so wrong. you'd also need soap and water to ensure all jiggery pokery goes off without any unpleasetness. its not just the popcorn that can burn....
