I had to go to Middleton this afternoon and after passing Lough Aderra Lake I noticed someone walking some small terriers. As I got closer I saw that they weren't terriers at all and they were Dachshunds and yer man that was walking them had a shotgun. He was going turning to a field of stubble. So I'm wondering wtf was he up to with a bunch of sausage dogs. Now I know that they are a hunting breed but surely they're not used for pheasants? anybody know of anyone who uses these for game?

A lad in the club at home used to bring his on driven shoots, It used to get as excited as the springers waiting to start. Used to be funny as hell though when you would hear the baying of the Dachshund when it came to an obsticle that it couldnt get over like a fallen tree, he would have to go and lift the dog over over it.

they're used on the continent to hunt everything foxes,deer,hare,badger.....
the wired hair teckles are starting to make a name for themselves in england now as excellent cover dogs especially for fox drives.

I own both a teckel, and a dachsund from working lines and both are outstanding dogs...

The teckel will track shot deer, flush birds and retrieve, flush foxes and work them below ground....And swim for shot duck. They also work well rabbiting and are great ferreting companions...holding rabbits in the net.

The working strain dachs does all of the above apart from track deer, but is a damn nuisance when out walking, I have had to dig her from rabbit warrens many times while out walking them
