Jonny here still awaiting my old account to be reinstated after the hacking.

Can a moderator please make this a sticky and delete any posts that are not directly related to club reviews as the last thread turned into a farce, this should be for CLUB NIGHT REVIEWS ONLY, thanks.

I'll start thee ball rolling then.

Etienne De Crecy Beats 'N' Cubes Live @ O2 Academy, Leeds.

    Door Tax - £10 advance - £12 on door.

    9pm to 4am.

After a nice meal myself and the missus made our way to the O2 Academy,i was gonna get tickets in advance but im glad i didn't now as there was a massive queue for ticket collections, where as we just breezed straight in, the queue for the claokroom was insane and a lot of puhing and shoving so i was a bit pi**ed off about that, anyway we got a drink (the gargle was cr*p as was the selection too)the place was packed to the gills, mostly drunk students  and teenagers, jaysus i felt old there although i did see a few people in their 30's as the night went on.

Anyway the warm up DJ's including Paul Woolford were IMO dreadful, that tech house IMO is bloody awful music, one song out of every 10 was half decent, ill say it again it's either House or Techno both together just does not do it,ive tried and tried but just cannot get it!!!

A long wait but eventually come 1am the curtains came back and Etienne De Crecy appeared,he played some mental tune which took about 2 minutes to build up which went straight into a full on Techno track, the crowd loved it, the stage show, with all the different cubes has to be seen if you've never seen it, absolutely mindblowing.

I have to say ive not heard any other DJ mix up this style before, the sound was best described as Electro Acid Techno, not electro house like some people said, this was full on and banging and most importantly uplifting, it was times like that i wish id have had a few dabs of MDMA but had to make do with weak beer, amazing performance though.

As per the event details on email said

Without any laptop and armed with vintage gear (Drum Machine / a MPC1000 sampler, 2 TB-303 sequencers, 2 Bass Station and A Station synthesizers, a multi-effects machine, a mixing console), Etienne de Crécy proposes a genuine electronic live, performed only with machines: loops, live sequences, effects filters and cuts. Every tune is rebuilt during each show, on the spur of the moment which gives a techno music that sounds definitely electro and crunchy, dirty, rough sounds full of distortions. Etienne de Crécy, as a worldwide famous DJ playing in the clubs all over the world, is always inspired by current sounds and the atmosphere of his live shows is strongly anchored in his era.

I have to say i was blown away by this DJ who plays live, this man is streets ahead of another French DJ !the much more famous) Laurent Garnier who when i seen live at the Electric Picnic a few years ago was absolutely dreadful and not a patch on Etienne De Crecy, i was loving the music De Crecy played, raw industrial Techno mixed up with electro and acid sounds, banging and uplifting the way it should be, i took one or two vids on my mobile so ill upload them later, but suffice to say this was the best DJ ive seen in a long time and certainly the best live show, best £12 ive spent in a long time, highly recommended, it's downright madness people paying insane money like €35 to see Garnier when for a fraction of the price you could see something like this, in fact if he does bring this tour to Dublin i would nearly go as far as to say it would be worth that money (although €35 really is scandalous but this is Dublin)

Unfortunately we had to give the last hour a miss as the babysitter couldn't stay all night so we had to go, even my missus who isn't into this sound (she prefers house) said she was blown away by it.

Pity the warm up DJ's were so terrible but the main event more than made up for it, Etienne De Crecy is fantastic.

    Video to follow.

    Rated - 10/10 :)

I won't sticky the thread Jonny but I've edited the link to direct to this new one and not the old 'heated one' in the 'Hot Links' sticky thread...

Redeveloped, recrafted and entirely redesigned for the start of a new decade, Factory Records infamous central Manchester offices, now The Factory, the city’s premier live music and rock and roll venue marks this coming Easter Sunday, April 4th with a very special event that sees FAC 51 The Haçienda take over The Factory for the first of its Bank Holiday Sunday events, bringing along one of its most famous lead singers performing live and a width of supreme DJ talents.

In an exclusive and special one-off gig, limited to some 400 tickets, Mancunian legend and survivor, Shaun Ryder is to perform a selection of his hits from his seminal groups, Happy Mondays, and Black Grape alongside debuting some of his new solo material. A full live band has been convened to back Shaun at the gig and he is expected to deliver an extraordinary and unique set for those lucky enough to get tickets for this once in a lifetime show.

In the top floor boardroom, now completely restored to its former glories, balearic honchos Justin Robertson and Jon Carter team up in a Djing double header which will see all manner of influences thrown into their eclectic and thought provoking sets.

On the middle floor, the entire evening will be taken over by the formidable Djing team of Murkage Cartell vs Jay “Backchat” Fontaine.

Meanwhile, the bassment gig floor is turned over to original Haçienda Hot resident and “the don of acid house” Jon Dasilva who will be playing to support Shaun’s performance and also later in the event. Renowned as one of the most inspirational and imaginative DJ’s since his debut at The Haçienda in the late 80’s, John’s muscular beats and tastemaking style make him one of the best DJ practitioners around.

Jon is joined downstairs by 808 State DJ’s, who put together sets that mixes up oldschool classics and the best modern techno in an individualistic style that always remains undoubtedly 808.

This was a fantastic night, i bought tickets in advance and i get an email saying id won a competition for guest list + 1, i totally forgot id entered a competition, anyway everyone we asked either had tickets or was on the guest list so we just went in.

The factory is an impressive club split over 3 levels on Princess St near to where the legendary Hacienda used to be, gutted we missed Jon Da Silva but Jon Carter was on the decks when we arrived and i forgotten how brilliant he can be, ive not seen him in a long time, Carter as older clubbers will know was involved in the infamous Heavenly Social nights alongside the Chemical Brothers in the 90's, he plays a diverse mix of all sorts that goes down very well,he knows how to work the crowd and the room was heaving and the atmosphere was brilliant, the crowd too were brilliant, a slightly older crowd but plenty of younger clubbers present too.

Come 1am and Justin Robertson came on but and played some classic Techno and Acid House but we ventured downstairs to see Shaun Ryder, he performed some of his new material which was alright but will probably take a few listens, he was actually very good and not the slabbering wreck he was years ago, he performed some classic Black Grape material and true to form finished with some vintage Happy Mondays tunes, the crowdd loved it and the room was absolutely packed and great atmosphere.

Anyway when Shaun Ryder had finished we went back upstairs where the legendary 808 State were doing a DJ set, any clubber old or young worth their salt will know who 808 State are, they have released a multitude of groundbreaking tracks over the years, i was eager to see what they would play in their DJ set, a mixture of all sorts was the answer, classic underground Techno, Bleeps, Vintage Acid House and Hardcore an breakbeat, im short they were absolutely brilliant, the 2 lads played back to back and the crowd were loving it, the Manchester crowd know how to party it's one of my favourite city's in Europe for clubbing there is so much going on, i cannot recommend 808 State enough, not only are they amazing producers their DJ sets are equally as amazing, fantastic atmosphere and crowd, when 808 State finished up at 410am someone else came on andd played Acid House until 4.45am the crowd still going for it.

Brilliant night the best of the year to date.:)

will upload some vids i took
